I have a problem with my car and I would like to know what you guys think it is...
When I'm driving at 100+km/h on the highways... and then have to slow down to 80 or something when turning off, the steering wheel shakes really badly when I press the brakes...
I got my wheels balanced and alignment checked and stuff about 2 weeks ago, and this is still happening. It only happens when I hit the brakes, because when I decelerate normally(letting the car slow down on its own without the brakes) there is no shaking or shuddering of the steering wheel, so I think it has something to do with the brakes, or the brake pads. Could you guys let me know what you think? Thanks![]()
My car is also doing the exact same thing![]()
front discs need machining.....
Yup - that's it. There's a slight warp or inconsistency in the face of the disc rotor(s). That's why it only shudders when you press the brakes. You need to get them machined so they're nice and flat again and the shudder will disappear. (naturally, the pads need to be replaced after this procedure also...)
Relatively simple and cheap job - there are even mobs now who do "on-car" machining. I'm not sure how well they work though - although it does save a lot in labour time not having to remove and re-fit the rotors.

i think the warping can be caused by driving through water when the brakes are hot from heavy loading, my old corrolla had that, new pads and discs fixed that!
Awesome... Thanks guys... Will get this done when I have some $$$ to spare... right now, got other uses of my $... shockingly its NOT Commodore related... lol![]()
Hi I think that your front discs may be warped (need machining) of course when you have this done you will have to replace the pads and bed them in, note there are companies that come to where you are and machine the discs on the vehicle ( if thats more convienent at additional costs too) hope this is a help . XVdude
sounds like you need to have your discs machined, (surface warped) most brake services do it or you can get on car machining (they come to you and charge you for it) Oh in either case you'll have to change your pads and re bed them . Cheers VX dude
Got a major service last Saturday, I told em about the warping.. and they confirmed it.. for 170 i got to new front rotors.. installed, i thought that pretty good.
Rotors don't warp, it is a myth. Vibration is cause by uneven pad transference on to the rotor face. Get them machined and get some decent pads. If the rotors don't have enough meat to machine then they'll need to be replaced.
upgrade to some dba cross drilled and slotted rotors, don't worry about the machining waste of time, considering new ones won't set you back that much more.

Need your computer tuned, or dash calibrated??? Want your PS3 fixed, or wish to prevent the YLOD?
if you are lucky and its just the pads, a decent set of pads could solve the problem. make sure you grease the slides at the same time. I'll probably get flamed by the purists for saying this tho. agree machining is better if you can. see if you can verify if the discs are actually warped or not first.
