    Default Which Engine???

G'day, my brother-in-law has a VY Berlina that has about 280,000k's on it and the motor is just about stuffed (LS1). He isn't really interested in rebuilding the motor, instead he would rather buy a crate LS1 or maybe a LS2?

Could anybody tell me what is involved in going from a LS1 to a LS2? Is it an easy conversion or should he stick with a LS1? Where can you buy crate motors from in NSW?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

I'd stick with the LS1. From what i've read in other threads there is more involved than what people think in converting to ls2.
Rebuild, stroke it even, what the heck!

as far as i know they bolt straight up to your auto or manual trans, but you need to change computers, wirring loom, etc. from what iv been told, headers etc. and there $4,500 for a crate ls2 and then install and the rest, would be easier and cheaper to rebuild yours or put a fresh new ls1 and headers(like di-fillipo or pacemakers) as it will be out.

with the ls2 the crank sharft/angle sensors are in a diffrent spot & you need to take apart the motor to get to them.

(thats what ive heard might be wrong?!?!)

you could just change the crank and reluctor wheel out of the ls1 if its in good nick i would be leaning more towards an l98 they are a better motor

How hard is it to do a L98 Conversion. I imagine most of it would be bolt up, but I have heard there are differences with the accelerator set-up or something???
