    Default 1ST CAR, tips please.

Hi everyone, im looking at getting a black VY Calais series 1, just stock, its done 140,000ks for 16k not leather interior, not really fussed, exterior is fine.

Just wondering if thats a good price for it, and how much more k's could it push out & would it start getting troubles with that amount of k's?

    Cheers.

Very good price mate. Most seem to be going for about $20k but they have a few less clicks. 140,000 is still pretty young. Like every second hand car, or any car for that matter, once you buy it, **** happens.

Just do the normal checks, take it for a test and see if it has any knocks or rattles, wait for it to warm up and then have another listen to the motor. Look for any leaks around the engine, where it is parked, etc. I would replace the timing belt just to be safe. Shouldn't need replacing but a $30 belt is cheaper than having to redo the whole engine if it gives out. Having said that it shouldn't break.

    Should be good mate.

thats a decent price, so id suggest if you want to buy it..get a mechanic/racv to check it out first,to let you know if there is any problems.also ring up your states roads for a nationwide check on finance owing and whether its ever been a writeoff..to do this you will need the vehicles VIN number and Engine number.I highly recommend you do that first..this saved me from being dodged once before!
    good luck

I certainly suggest you try buy a series 2 vy. 4 months ago I bought a vy berlina series 2, with 80000kms, from a holden dealer, for $17000.
Just for that amount of money you're getting alot of km's, i dont know how long the vys tend to last but if it were me, I'd downgrade to a berlina and halve the kms for the same dough. it may save u alot of money in the long run. Its not expensive to make the berlina look like a calais too, if thats your thing. ( i wanna put vz calais taillights in mine, so hot)
Nice choice for a first car btw, a black calais, u have both style and taste :P

Hey there just wondering if its from a dealer or private sale. I recently purchased a vy series 2 s pack super 6 for 14 with 118,000km on the clock pretty mint condition interior had exterior apart form a couple of scratches that looked bad but buuffed straight out. Has upgraded dual pot front brakes and stds in the rear, tint, rims etc. i would suggest to haggle the guy a bit if you havent brough it yet.

Without leather i think thats a few grand over what its worth

now you have the car you can also fill out the 'Ride' details on the top right of all your posts , so people can see the details straight up.
Sounds great though, specially at your age, it will last you another 10 years easy if you give it regular oil changes and service as necessary. Most commodores will be reliable to almost 300thou if looked after.
