The other day i pulled up my handbrake and it just went back down again and didn't lock in. At first i thought the cable had snapped, but the handbrake still works... you just have to hold it up... lol. I think it has something to do with the cogs not locking in however i'm not really sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If i have to go to holden to get it fixed how much will it cost?
easy fix, they have a locking pin that engages to keep the handbrake up.
pull the boot of the handbrake and inspect for damage. you may even find it has come loose and fallen off. otherwise order a new locking pin from holden, about $7.00

Guys I know I'm digging up an old thread here but didn't want to start a new one and this was all I could find...
Long story short I came home from work just then and tried to apply the handbrake but it won't lock in and you can't hear any "clicks" when you pull it up... It still works when you pull it up i.e. brakes the car, however, won't hold in position so it's pointless unless of course I wanted to turn my car into something out of Tokyo Drift :S
Did you read the other replys to the thread before you dug it up?
OP was having the same issue as you, and it was diagnosed as a possible locking pin failure and instructions on how to check it were given.

Solved it myself anyways, had to get the whole handbrake assembly as "apparently" you can't just get this so called locking pin on it's own... I'll be posting a picture of the problem shortly in this thread so that it will be more detailed for anyone else looking for this problem so that they can resist the urge to post on this thread, in turn making you resist the urge to reiterate what has already been replied previously!
I'll take a picture for you tomorrow arvo after work haha! Umm it was about $64 I'm pretty sure, which I guess ain't too bad considering it's the whole handbrake assembly and what not :S
To get it off you will first need to undo the handbrake cable adjuster nut, then undo the two bolts that secure the handbrake assembly, and then pull the relay upwards so it disconnects from the handbrake assembly... Once that's all done you'll be able to pull the handbrake assembly out of the car, it's pretty straight forward really.
When you go to get the part see if they can give you just the individual part instead of the whole assembly cause I want to see if I got ripped off hahaha but I doubt it :P
Orrrrrr if your not in too much of a rush to get it fixed you could go to a wreckers and try your luck, but I guess for 60 odd dollars you may as well get a newbie in my opinion... Food for thought nonetheless!
Ok so I said that I'd post a few pictures just to help anyone else searching for this problem so here goes...

The second picture shows the "locking pin" situated where it's supposed to be, clipped into the metal arm.
Basically the plastic "locking pin" wears out from movement within the metal arm and eventually slips out and can no longer stay in place.
Apparently from what I was told, you can't just buy a replacement "locking pin"... You have to buy the whole assembly (first picture) which for my car was $64... Not too bad a price but then again it's not great.
Went to Holden mate, and nah just have to pull off the rubber boot (pull toward front of the car and it'll eventually come off... has some sort of clue fixing it to the assembly) and then push your seat all the way back and there are two bolts fixing the handbrake assembly to the car... It will all make sense once you take off the rubber boot though ay!
Yea it took a fair bit of force to slide it off the lever to say the least haha... Just hold it as if you were going to pull the handbrake up, but use to hands and pull towards the front of the car and give it a bit of a wriggle as well to loosen up whatever holden used as glue in there haha! But after that it's super easy and straight forward, which was a fresh change for me anywaysha!
