    Default new engine bay mods

Took a Vy ls1 cover, added 3 months worth of bog work.

puchased some MSD custome ignition leads, and made up my own grounding kit.
    feels punchier.

The engine cover looks TOPS mate . Fills out the open space alot nicer. Did it really take that long to do? I'd love to do that in my VY, but I think to construct it be a bit above my head.

I've been talking to some family friends who are high up in the business world about, making one similiar to this and going into production, because I've had a lot of good feedback about it.

basically I would delete the v8 front air inlet and continue the front end all the way along. i would need to delete the holden logo also, and most people have said make it only have 6 runners not 8. (v8 wannabe otherwise)

really mate, the fine tuning of the mody filler was the hardest part. the initial cuts and fills were easy. a few hours. plus setting time. i filled in the 5.7litre writting, cut the cover to fit around the cable, and plumbing of the v6, deleted and filled the filler holes, and the veiwing hole for the power steering fluid too.

all up I started this in May, and it has been a weekend project since then.

I have process pics if you are interested of how to make one yourself

I was only talking about doing that with one of the friends the other day.. I'm definately gunna have a go!
Did you just use fibreglass to bog it up?
Ever thought about using one of those OTR v8 intakes, and plumbing it back to the airbox? I'td save you bogging up the front hole then, and it'd probably be beneficial.

that was my next step, it shouldn't be too hard to do. I've even been contemplating, changing the inlet manifold so the throttle body is at the front.

    Cheers
the idea came from the alloytec cover:

this is what i purchases for $50 from wreckers:

    first fit cutouts:

used a die grinder to cut back recess on filler holes, then bogged up:

    underneath:

    sand back and first undercoat:

    first top coat:

    final look:

    on car:
    refer to first post

I used only body filler, no fibreglass. I made the bracket to adapt the cover onto the v6 out of universal brackets you find in a central locking kit. i used m6 bolts and nuts to adapt the brackets, and I used the original lock nuts off the v6 engine cover to affic the v8 cover on top.

Forgot to post, this is how I did the mounting brackets for the v8 cover. as it is wider than the v6, and the holes also longer. these a automotive M6 bolts and nuts, with loctite.

though the alloytec cover looks dumb. too square in my opinion. and there are plenty of unused turtle shells covers out there for cheap

At least with the alloytech cover you know it's a 6, but the LS1 cover, is just that, and will never live up to the name.

    Sad, imo.

Meh, I know it's a six. don't plan on doing any kfc carpark racing among the hyundais out there. If i open the bonnet it looks clean and tidy and I'm proud of my work. My dad was helping me with the prep work on the cover before he passed, so it means something to me just to have it on the car. I'm sure if he was still around we would of made it into a six runner cover, and finished completely. I'll play with it more one day, for now I'm happy.

Even though I admire your ingenuity, I don't know why you didn't put all that eefort into removing the cover and presenting the Alloytec plenum. It is a great looking bit of kit. I have seen these things inside and out and they aren't to be taken lightly so show it off imo

    Jealous? of what?

I give you credit for putting in the hard work, but I was just wondering why?

Like anything with cars it's all opinion, and different tastes.

Not my taste, but it's a public forum and thats my opinion.

You have the 8 bumps on the cover. I vote you bog the most rear ones on each side so it's looks like an LS1 six cover, if you know what I mean.

At least then it is not trying to be somehting it isnt. That would look good.

it is a vy not vz. it has an ecotec. alloytecs came out in 04 on the vz range. If I had an alloytec i would not have needed to cover the ugly thing up.

deleting the back two bulges. duely noted. will play with on weekend

not every post that someone makes disliking something is a result of them being jealous. its generally just a poor excuse to make you feel better about yourself.

yes it will hold, the filler is in the shape of an hour glass, can't go in, can't go out. But it did fall through a few times while i was in the construction stages. hence the time frame to get it done

I reckon the VZ style covers wouldn't be that difficult, the only problem is the ecotec doesn't have any sort of runner sitting on the top of the engine. A friend of mine is tricky with fibreglass and he's said that he might give me a hand to bodge something up!
