Depends on your state. In vic, the lowest point on your car must be no lower than 100mm from the ground.

yeh it 100mm from the lowest point of you vehicle in vic, no fe2 isn't the lowest legal, you can go lower, fe2 is what the clubsports and ss, s packs, etc run, not sure how much lower you can go on a clubby dur to the body kit but on an ss, commodore, etc, you can go lower.

You can go lower than FE2 but not by much legally in SA, i want to drop my car a bit more but its already got FE2 and i measured it and its only a few mm's in it so im not going to bother. i like the practicality of gettin over speed humps, and driveways so not overly fussed.

Mine sits 25mm lower than FE2. I have 103mm clearance at the lowest point of the car which happens to be the headers. But that is with nobody in the car.

Technically you must retain 2/3 of your original suspension travel as well. although a lot of cops wont pick on it "technically" most lowered springs are unroadworthy.

The worst part is they measure it as the distance from the centre of the rim to the bottom edge of the guard, they have sheets with all models in there that they go by.

Unfortunately even when I had full adjustable coilovers in my sti they still defected me for it, even though with the coilovers i still had full travel. I spoke to vic roads, they put through to an engineer who i spoke to on the phone.... he said while i was correct they couldn't give me anything in writing through vicroads to keep the cops off my back unless i was to get a proper engineers certificate done..

In saying this 90% of commodores and in fact most common cars dont meet this requirement and dont get defected.

No you don't, but if you decide to drop it on it's ass it's a good idea to put a shorter shock in

If you have FE2 shocks already and you only lower a bit you'll be ok.

Have very little problems with bottoming out. I tend to take speed humps at a slight angle because if I go straight on, as I come down the other side, the headers will sometimes smack the hump. Other than that no problems. If you don't have at least FE2 shocks then I'd replace the shocks also.
