Yeah a v8 with a tune doesn't use any more petrol than a 6 if you drive it right.

My friend was given a ford wagon on factory gas, and reckons he got 500kms from the first half of the tank driving lead foot, and it cost him $45 (i think) or so to fill. Bloody awesome.

Check out liquid gas direct injection, actually runs a higher octane than petrol and is more accurate.

Now that I have had a week of driving and more than a tank go through its looking to be 8.5 per 100km I'm driving 50km round trip on the highway between home and work daily and apart from that just small quick trips to and from my girlfriends which is what pushes my normal 7.5 to 8.5 still sweet as.

I've got a VY II Ex Queensland Police, it's bog stock standard and around the city, when I drive nice in city traffic I'm getting 12, and the best I've got on the freeway, again driving nice and using the cruise was 7.11l/100K @ an average of 111.4Km/h {gotta love digital instrumentation!]
A mate from work has a VY II Berlina and he's got it on gas and he's getting between 400 and 500 Km to a tank, depending on the gas he uses and when he drives. Here in Adelaide there's a gas seller that sells pure Propane for the same cost as normal LPG, he uses that and I used to use it in my 5.0 VS Statesman International before it was written off. I found it was heaps better on the open road using propane rather than normal LPG. All of that in mind I think that with the current fuel prices and the cost of conversion I'd be thinking about leaving mine on petrol...

i would say crap, but i have seen both dads old EA wagon and his current Au wagon have unbelievable gas consumption. MY EB is doin about 12-13l/100 all peakhour as its my work car. (thats an actual calculation not the screen)

My V8 is cheaper to drive fuel wise than my old Ecotec. that tune has well and truly paid for itself.

Confirmed with my friend... the ford gets about 700-800kms a tank, driving lead foot, and costs $60 to fill.

i changed the way i go to work last week and over the last week and a half, my stock vyss is using 13.6 ltrs per hundred instead of 14.8-15 ltrs/100 a couple of weeks ago and thats in traffic, got a more flowing road, still cross the road i used to take though.

Whats your average speed? Lots of stopping and starting? How hard are you driving the car?

you got to remember james that the VS and VY has the same engine, apart from a little difference in power which was derived from the upgraded ECU the only change to the engine was the position of the PSV and the implementation of EGR.
I guess what im saying is that there will be not heaps of difference between the fuel consumption in any cars with the same engine. The VS will use a little more because the engine will be warn and is unlikely to be running as efficiently as it could. But the vy is also heavier than the vs but is alot nicer to drive too. IF you want spastic economy then maybe look outside the commodore range.
Possibly if you can afford it, have a look into a VZ. The alloytec is a more fuel efficient engine and iv been very impressed with mine since getting it
