Hey, just wonderig, I've heard something about a filter for the air conditioning unit that may need to be cleaned periodically. Is this true and where is it located. Is it a pain in the ass to do?
Aircon isnt self servicing, when you get the air conserviced by a tecchie they will clean it up.
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
No i know its not self servicing but just wondering where the filter is so i can give it a clean up myself. Still works well but wouldn't mind cleaning the filter. Is it under the glove box somewhere?
yeh thats a good question, wouldn't mind knowing this too, is there? and if so might be easier to buy one and replace it depending how dirty and clean that every 5-10,000k's.
mate there is a filter but hard to get to as its behind the glove box and not sure you can just go out and buy a new filter to fit...
not 100% suure, but have a look under the plenum cover and see if there is a filter like looking thing in there, that might be it. the plenum cover im talking about is the 2 black plastic vented pieces that sit at the bottom of the front windscreen where the wiper arms come out of. the wiper motor is underneath it also.
oh nice, will defenatly be buying one for when i give car a service in a couple of weeks.
Thanx guys
anyone found this filter yet ? i had a look behind the glovebox and only saw the fan. where's the filter ? is it part of a standard air con service to clean it , my AC has not been touched for at least 6 years. still cool but not cold.
plenum is on the engine, the part your referring to I believe is called the cowl. the tunnel area between engine bay and firewall.
oh and I too would like to know more about the filters, I have heard people going out and installing extra carbon filters to improve air purity through the system, that would be good idea too.
The AC filter is replace about every 30,000KM. Most of the time the filter is not clean as a part of the service.
perhaps this is of some use. found on the US forums.
Upgrade Cabin Air Filter
that being the gto in the US, you will have to look on the other side on an AUS car (passenger side).

Thank you Farlig, I had a squiz at the u.s. site and it looks like it will be reasonably easy to get to. At least I now know that it aint behind the glove box as i had heard somewhere. Might have a look on the w'end.
