Hey guys I would like your opinion based on the following.
I am still in a dilemma with buying an SS. I do not know which is going to be better. I love driving manual, but autos are cruisy.
I am getting the DUS OTRCAI, Full exhaust with extractors, and EFILive tune, which will yield in the vicinity of 220-240rwkw.
I have been told that the autos are storng, and will take this powere on a daily basis (even with more power).
I have also been told that the clutches will not handle this power (or the gearbox without doing some mods). A few guys seem to be using the Tex? clutches.
I don't drive hard all the time anymore, those days are gone, just crusiing with a squirt here and there.
The thing is I dont want to go and fork out another 3k on top of the above mods to get a new clutch, nor to rebuild a manual gearbox. If I got manual, I cannot have the clutch to heavy as my wife has to drive it as well.
What are peoples experiences with the auto V manual debate. I basically just need a daily driver, that isn't a bi%$# to drive.
You comments are appreciated.![]()
Once the auto has line pressures adjusted etc it is really good and sharp to drive. Bes tof all it will keep the mrs happy and allow you to work ona plan to get your own car to which you can do what you want![]()

Mines a manual and the wife is happy as with it. I wasn't too concerned with auto or manual when i was looking but since having the manual i'm rapt that we went with it.
From what i've been told the gearbox and clutch are pretty strong and will handle some mods to your engine but that's only what i've heard.
All in all, i had an ls1 auto and now i've got a manual and would have to say i prefer driving the latter.
its a personal preference mate. With those mods you have suggested a manual and auto box will last until your motor dies. YOu said you wouldnt be kaning it just a squirt every now and then so you have nothing to worry about. IMO get a manual because they are more fun to drive and sound better on the road when you pop the clutch etc etc thats just my opinion though. Do what u want its your car
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
Just thought i'd copy what i said earlier before you move the thread:
Manual will handle extractors, exhaust, hi-flow cats, OTR intake and tune (approx 240rwkw) without a problem. It will also handle a cam (approx 290rwkw) if you drive it nice. If you give it a real thrashing, then in time as with any car you will need to change the clutch. My car was just dynoed at 253rwkw, it is manual with stock clutch and goes fine... no problems at all. I would definitely recommend a manual over an auto though... they go a lot better, plus their more fun to drive and will take more power without needing high stall and a rebuild =)
