on the intake pipe to the throttle body, i found a wire disconnected from what must be a sensor, looks a bit like a led light in a plastic housing that sits in a hole in the underside of the intake pipe what is it?, what does it do? and should it be connected?
I can't be sure, but do the V8s have a WOT (Wide Open Throttle) sensor something along these lines? Just speculation on my part....![]()

Hmmm, a pic would be helpful.
I too am speculating, but it sounds MAF related to me. Is your car MAFless tuned? If so, that explains why it's disconnected...
Farlig is on the money, mate. There is usually a 'C' clip that holds them in on the inside, hopefully, it's not stuck to the back of one of your intake valves lol
yes it is mafless tuned, ill try to get a pick of it over the weekend i too thought it was a air intake air temp sensor, if it is that should it be connected and if it isn't could it possibly cause damage or loss of power?
thanks for the replies guys..
lmao, that is your IAT Sensor. Best you plug it in!!!
It should run bloody brilliantly when its cold...not so healthy when its hot.

Just trying to make heads or tails out of the first post, the sensor is still in the pipe and electrically disconnected? or the sensor has fallen out of the pipe? if the latter is the case, then you have been sucking dirt in to your engine.
I'd say he pulled the IAT out to look at it. I read it as the wire was disconnected at the clip.

Ih he says it looks like a littred LED, then my bet is the whole IAT sensor has come out. Just push it back into the whole in your maf pipe.
car will run rich as **** without it plugged in.
If you buy those 20hp + kits off the net, the send you a resistor which you loop into the harness and not plug into the IAT sensor. tells the car it's cold like in the morning and makes it run a bit punchier. NOT good for long term use, as you'll stuff mixture sensors.
plug it back in, it's there for a reason.

Need your computer tuned, or dash calibrated??? Want your PS3 fixed, or wish to prevent the YLOD?
(Edit: This post only applies if the sensor is plugged in electrically, but is not in the tube :P)
How? What's the temperature difference between inside and outside the tube? If you were talking dry bulb and wet bulb, there would be a difference simply because of the airflow, but i don't think the sensor picks that up. I'm not being smart, but tell me how it can sense the difference?
If the sensor is out of the intake it will actually run lean until the o2 sensors trim the mix. The air in the engine bay will be hotter than that in the intake. The pcm will calculate a less dense volume of air due to the high IAT so will inject less fuel.
If unplugged the intake temp will be measured at a default -40 degC & will run rich.
ok so it is air temp sensor, and ill plug it in today..
i did notice the car is running rich though it always does, but i done some serious highway driving on the weekend and best fuel consumption was 11L/100km, which is crap from memory i usually get around 9L/100km..
it was in the pipe but unplugged, how long it has been in this state im not sure..
thanks for the help guys and gals..
