antiabuse gearbox system

hey guys

just wondering if anyone knew anything about the supposed antiabuse systems that the later model holden commodore have on the gearbox. i have tried to find information on it but whatever i find is very limited.

does anyone know anything about it? is it not real? and is there any way to turn it off??

IT is real.

If you rev your motor is Neutral and throw it into drive, resulting in lots of smoke the gear box will not change out of 2nd gear. the result is a warning sound and a check engine light.

To reset this you must turn off the ignition and restart the car.

while moving on a straight road, place in neutral. turn off ignition, turn on ignition. place back into drive.

the boxes let you flick from neutral to 1st quickly for a bit of fun, but anything from a stand still with a big throttle application will cause it to kick in

cheers sp001in, i had no idea what it actually was but thats a good description, guess ill try it out sometime, hopefully dont blow the box, haha.

is it possible to turn it off totally?? or is it a built in function of the car?

I know my VZ has it. You can't rev the motor past 4k in either park or neutral. Also, won't drop into drive from neutral if you've got any revs above idle on it...

Mine, does it too. but I can throw into 1st with 4000rpm from neutral. Not that it is very good for the car.

First question, why would you want to drop it in gear from neutral?

secondly... another part of this is if you hold the selector in 1st n boot it, it WILL change into 2nd to prevent the gearbox over revving
