    Default Got Car inspected...

    Hey guys,
I've been looking at a VY ute to buy, and I got it inspected for any nastys, issues etc

A few things came back from the inspector, and i was wondering whether they were really major issues or not...

My mechanical knowledge is limited but growing so any help mould be much appreciated

And for a couple of the things if any1 has approx costs of parts etc it would be handy too.

Heres the ones that have me wondering...

    DRIVE LINE:
RH REAR C/V JOINT INNER HAS EXCESSIVE MOVMENT
DRIVE SHAFT SLIP JOINT HAS MOVMENT IN SPLINE AT CENTRE BEARING
    ENGINE:
OIL LEAKING FROM LEFT AND RIGHT ENGINE ROCKER COVERS
IDLER PULLEY FOR ENGINE DRIVE BELT BEARING U/S
^^ Is the rocker cover issue just a matter of tightening?

    BRAKE TEST: 63%
    HAND BRAKE: 35%
^^^ Is the handbrake a matter of tightening cable?

    Thanks in advance

    Tyson

rocker covers probably just tighten, although would be good to replace just incase and you know there done, handbrake 90% chance just an adjustment at the rear shoes (through service plug on rear brake disc hub) unless its done 300k and abused, but 90% chance just adjustment, if doing your self, i adjust mine to 4-5 clicks when pulling handbrake up slowly so can count clicks.

although the drive line doesn't sound good, is this at a dealer or private sale?
would want that checked out by a driveline specalist to make sure theres nothing else in the driveline like that and whats required, cost etc.
    good luck.

Looks like you need new C.V Joints, not a big issue, roughly about $100 a side to get them refurbished. If your in WA I will give you a name of an old guy who does them.

With the rocker covers, just take them off and put on new gaskets, no real problem at all. Just Time.

Brakes are not an adjustment issue. The percentage is what is left of the brake pad. So just change the pads. Pads are very cheap, around the 30 dollar mark.

    thanks for replies

The ute has done bit less than 130 000kms, owner was up in mines...

*private sale, thats why we got it inspected*

I live in QLD, just west of Brisbane...

so rockers might need new gaskets and tighten; any idea on rough price of new gaskets?

    C.V's aren't a big one,
Drive-line is bit of issue...What needs to be done, roughly?

sorry for so many questions, just trying to develop some mor eknowledge

    thanks Tyson

Always get it inspected, even from a dealer with warranty. Even a respectful dealer. You never know whats hiding. Sometimes they will try to rip you off or they themselves wont even know the problems. The car I test drove apparently had a dealer in-house inspection but veered left quite hard. Dealer says its just an alignment but I say if thats the case, why didnt they fix it over the last 60 days its been on the lot?

yeh my vy had a shot auto shift 1st-2nd, id driven a couple of gen3 autos and i realy liked the car, said to the salesman at holden, it feels like the auto is on its way out, he said "nah thats how the gen3 autos drive, you can drive anyone of them here i garuntee they all drive the same" i ended up buying it, and got holden to test it and they confirmed 1st-2nd gear and it was rebuilt under there 3months used car warranty and all good till the shift solenoid burnt out and that was replaced under there workmanship warranty bout 10 months later
