    Default Mysterious plug behind glovebox

would anyone in a sedan be able to look at this and tell me if yours has something plugged into it?

I'm thinking this might be the plug for the rear speakers?

    Bah.. thanks i guess.

Well does anyone know where the rear speaker wires are ran down the chasis to the rear? I'm hoping the front wiring harness is shared between the utes and sedans, and hopefully i can tap into it that way.

take glovebox out, undo 3 screws on right hand side, fold the side panel down on the centre console, and near the stereo area, theres the loom for the stereo wiring, open that up and you can get the rear speaker wires there.

In the VS they had a plug around there somewhere for a phone. Wouldn't be that would it?

Lol, sorry to kill your dreams but I've got that plug on my VZ, which isn't a ex-cop, and I've got no idea what it does either.

It's not the phone socket either, that's in the centre console where hakhawk described.

I've had more VYs and VZs of all model designations apart in that area than I can remember, but I've never seen that connector hooked up!

I'm buggered if I know what it does. I thought a while ago it might have had something to do with footwell lights, but that ain't it either. (I had/have to run separate wires for those....)

If you're after the wiring though, hakhawk nailed it. Pick 'em up form there - they might be in the loom somewhere, but will probably be almost impossible to find.

Although just one thought - remove the door sill trims, and have a look around about the B pillar - that's where the wiring pops out in the sedans.... Look for the wire colours hakhawk referred to - these colour codes apply throughout the loom.

    Best of luck!

Nup - not the glovebox light. Almost all models in VY and VZ had a glovebox light.

Mine sure does, and that empty connector is there....

    I'm curious too

My acclaim has it, ex NSW Police unmarked car.

I have been using the mobile phone plug, it sits on the other side of the glovebox so it definately aint that,

I have the glovebox light installed, not for that

I DONT have footwell lighting, but I'm tempted to pull apart a mates Calais which does to see if his has the plug and if its used.

I cant say mine looks like its been used by police for anything, but I didnt have a good look.

Might pull apart our Equipe which we've had from new to see if it has it

same here, i ended up looking where hakhawk told me to and found the harness covered in black sticky cloth, tore it off and piggybacked off the wires and hooked em to the speakers behind the seats. Shame of it is i have a ute head unit so she's not doing anything. I even pinched a calais 6 stacker unit off a friend and all it does is ask for a code...
I did find that the holden has also provided me with the cables i need to pop my boot aswell!

dont think its got anything to do with the aerial either - mines electric and its not connected.

one_and_only - you just need to get your unit re-coded to enable the rear outputs. The hardware is there, it's just disabled in software.

There is a thread on it somewhere - too late for me to be bothered finding it now...

The mystery plug couldn't have anything to do with factory subs could it?

Are you sure it's referring to the one in the first post in the VY ute ?
As there is one for the phone but it's on the console side of the wiring.

    cheers

If you have a look in the glove box at the top right there's a little plastic circle where the boot button is usually found. The wires are still there - no idea where they go though.
Whats the other use, hektik NOS button maybe?

    Haha nah.

I am going to be fitting a T56 & the reverse gear lock out solenoid is normally controlled by the LS1 pcm, in that it stop you selecting reverse once the car get up over 8kph. I'm told most people hook it up to the brake light switch in conversions. But I have also been told that the boot release is also controlled so it wont open over 8kph speed. If it's true I was going to trace the wiring back to the V6 PCM & see if i can use it to control the reverse solenoid.

    It's a long shot I know.

    Cheers
