Hi Guys,
Im thinking about fitting a set of High Ratio Rockers (1.95:1) into my VY S/C V6 and was wondering if anyone knows how reliable the engine would be for day to day driving. I dont think anyone has ever mentioned this before.
ie will it die after 20-30,000km. Possible valve problems, wear problems etc.
Anyone have any stories etc.
not sure, don't know alot about the aftermarket rockers, but if your going to put them on i'd suggest putting stronger valve springs in to suit just to maybe help save wear a bit and valve bounce, valve train noise from the old valve springs as they wear more, with newer firmer rockers.
This is a hot topic I think.
Despite the fact I fitted a set when I had my V6, I'm actually against it now, because while you get extra valve lift, you put a lot more strain on the cam lobe as it has more leverage against it. While this would be worse with a flat tappet cam, it would still be an issue I think long term with hydraulic rollers. People keep coming up with higher and higher ratio rockers, soon, something has to give. If you're going to do it anyway, I would take cpbait's advice and fit a set of springs to suit, usually the rockers come with new rods too, apparently the larger diameter (stock) rods can scrape the head because of the repositioned pushrod cup in the rocker, so they give you smaller diameter ones. Make sure they are a thicker wall to stop them deflecting as they have a harder job to do now, too. Everything you change compromises something else, no matter what you're doing. Do some research before you make a decision.
