I noticed two things with my new [to me] WK V8...
1. When taking off with the drivers side window open, I can hear a quick grinding noise sometimes coming from outside... could it be the breaks?
2. Also when I steer around a tight corner or park the car, there is some kind of rubbing noise coming from the steering the the steering wheel starts shaking... could this be because I'm not used to driving a large car?
i would say warped disks if the wheels start shaking.
eliminate the problem by having the rotors machined and new pads fitted.
I got this done by holden (needed brake pads anyways) and the noise is gone but the shacking is still present. When I turn the wheel at stationary it shudders pretty crazy. When I drive there is a vibration.
I took it to a mechanic I used to use for my old Commodore and he took it for a spin. He says a power steering fluid fush may help the shudder. He says the shacking may be due to the car sitting in the previous owners garage too long and the tyres may have developed a flat spot.
They are pretty busy and I got it booked in on the 10th Jan for them to have a look.
Any comments from you guys would be appreciated![]()
There was a problem with the PS hose on some VY's. There was a techline on it. They will replace a hose section i believe, and clamps onto the rail.
Cant remember exactly, but if you go into holden and explain the symptoms and the car is within the range of VINS they should be able to fix it for you.
Also on takeoff, i think the ABS will give a bit of a calibration noise that can sometimes be felt.

The shuddering sounds like power steering, a flush and new fluid will probably help it.
The techline procedure which Holden recommend to fix the problem of Low speed steering shudder is to replace the HIGH PRESSURE hose between the Power Steering Pump and steering gear with a revised hose. The revised section is longer and is routed along the front of the engine and mounted in place with two clamps.
Your dealership should be able to help you out if you phone them up just, probe with questions as to whether other cars have had problems with shuddering steering. There is a techline on it, so they should know of the problem and be able to fix it for you.

I wrote them a letter of what was wrong with my car (I couldnt drop it off myself) and the guy didnt even read it until I called him. My mother dropped off the car at 9am and gave them the letter, they didnt read it until after 1pm after I had to call them.
I just feel like a number when I bring my car to them, not a customer.
Your a big help my friend, thank you.
Hi, I had this problem and it was solved by replacing one of the power steering hoses, it was a design fault. It was like a water hammer effect when turning on full lock.
For free (as a recall)?
Also, I pumped 2 PSI more into the tyres then I am supposed to and the steering feels better today. I didnt drive it on the freeway but at 80km/h its better then before.
