Hi All,
does any one know how hard it is to replace a vy condensor as i have a hole in mine and the ac does not work. it looks straight foward to remove but I am not sure if this is the case or not
Like most other topics say, get it to a licenced a/c guy. As the system will need to be regassed anyways.
Why not have a go at replacing the condensor yourself,Im not sure if you have to remove anything else to get it out, but other than that its just removing and refitting bolts like anything else. Possibly there is at least an hours work in doing it, so you'd save yourself an hours labor charge. Suggsest fitting new seals at the connections, if you cant access those, let the ac tech do the final connections
Yes its still going to be need a regas, just pay for that.
Once you disconnect the pipes make sure to cap them off so that no moisture enters the system. Install the condensor with cappings still on it. You will also need new receiver/dryer so try and get one. Now you should call Licensed AC techician who should install new O-rings on the fittings and lubricate them as well and install your new receiver/dryer. Don't install R/D yourself as it will potentially soak moisture before technician arrives. He should also add oil to your system to compensate for loss when replacing condenser and R/D. After that he should evacuuate the system for 1/2 an hour and charge it and you'll have cool air again.![]()
Umm, he already has a hole in the condensor, there is already air through the system. Once there is air in there its done, the moisture will be in there, which is why the system needs to be evacuated.
Of course its not going to hurt to cap things off and stop dirt getting in.
Thanxs guys for all the good information I will give it a go just need to buy the new condensor and the reciever/dryer. Does any one know of a good and cheap place ot get it re gased?
