hey guys i am lookin at putting maybe a voltmeter guage and a oil pressure guage on my 04 ss. the clubbies have them set up on the top middle of the dash. is it hard to put on a ss? has anyone done it? feedback would be awesome guys.. Cheers.
was gonna buy one of the double holders on ebay so it looks a bit more properly done.
Yea im in the process of doing it now in my VY Exec, I dont like the holders off ebay as they have the screw holes which you can see so i bought the genuine HSV holder from CAPA for $200 - $100 more than the SS Inductions/ebay ones but in my opinion better... Should get that next week hopefully maybe the one after because of Xmas... Also thinking about the Oil Pressure gauge but unsure of another gauge to get, I will buy them from Autobarn as they seem to have the better looking ones and they will install all of it for around $200mark!
Check out my ride... VY Commodore
oh awesome thanks for lettin me know that. i had a bit of a feeling the ebay ones might be a tad dodgey. ill try get my hands on the genuine hsv one. will be well worth it if it suits cause they look awesome in the hsv's. what size guages are they?
Why is that?
The top of the dash looks the same.
By three dial, do you mean the onboard computer thingo?
In which case, i have the single window computer but no climate control.
u sure adamc11, i thought they just clip into where the top dash trim is once you pop it out, as far as i'm aware its only the wirring thats an issue as same top dash trim in both, if its the duel climate it has the conectors/wirring there for the factory gauges, if not you've got to do the wirring from what i understand, yeh you can get ss factory gauges too, iv seen them before, can't remember if it was in a pic on this forum or not.
I'm 100% sure that the area for the gauge holder in climate control models (i.e. berlina, calais, monaro) is slightly different than those with the 3 dials (i.e. exec, my ss). As you will notice, the climate control models have the coloured trim that runs over the top of the climate control section, whereas the 3 dials do not. The climate control model therefore has a smaller top section. The gauge holder will be too small for non-climate control cars.
For example, here is a monaro (note the black trim on the top of climate control:
And here is an SS (no trim at the top):

oh ok, looks like a vz dash in the monaro not a vy dash, i thought they'd be ok, check with holden you must be able to get one for the non climate control dash
They're a mass produced unit.
I really can't see holden forking out for two different dashs just for some measly guages.
I reckon the gauge pods will still sit in the same places. But in the particular models with the extra trim, it goes under said trim.
Just an assumption, but it seems logical to me.
As far as i know they're the same. The only difference was between the models with the top storage compartments (like my ss) but the rest of the models were the same. I fit gauges in my vy berlina and when i got that pod i was told they were universal except for the models with the storage compartment.
Well i found this tonight: NVU, Genuine Holden parts to suit Holden Commodore VR,VS,VT,VX,VY,VZ,Monaro,Statesman,Utes and HSV
Guess i was wrong (i think).... these ones might fit.

i would be gutted if none of the mounts suited the vy series 2 with the 3 dial. is it best to e-mail holden or call?
call em...

There are two types of genuine holden gauge holders. See: Commodore VZ Pod Gauges [POD-VZ] - $495.00 : Emtech Automotive
QUOTE "For VZ Non Climate please see "VY" Gauges."
They do vary slightly at the front of the gauges.. the non climate control ones have a bit more length at the front.
Edit: Just read a contradicting comment here: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=43773 There doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer anywhere

I wouldn't buy the SS Inductions ones.
I had one installed last week, all fitted ok, not the best fit but good enough, gauges up and running THEN on a hot day it all melted and distorted.
What an absolute piece of sh^% and waste of money. SS stuff is crap, steer clear.
To top it off I can't find my receipt off the place I brought it so i will just buy a genuine one down the track sometime.
I have aftermarket gauges in my car most holders will fit but thats not the problem, guages need a sender box to work in other words if you can find one that hooks up to the holden computer in your car your laughing but the only ones I know of that work are the genuine hsv made by VDO I have matrix gauges in my Vy clubby they light up but needles dont work lol they look awesome especially when you change the colour of one to red and the other blue and people drive real slow near you at night lol.I deliver to and speak with Holden mechanics and auto elects every day and theyve told me the same only the genuines work sorry.![]()

i got the ss inductionss ones and aftermarket autometer gauges and i have had no problems
i asked holden when i got my water pump replaced under warranty and they said as far as they new the climate control ones ok, just plug in, the top of the dash will clip in but if non climate control you have to do the wiring yourself, would like to get the factory and wire it up myself, or the autometer would be good too.
does anyone know if you can wire up the little apexi ones that you see in all the jap cars, that you can change the screen to read as gauges or just the oxy sensor/injector readings, boost readings, etc to a v8 commodore?
oil pressure sender will be required if you dont have the loom factory installed, my series 2 ss ute didnt, even with climate control. easy solution at first i was just going to remove the factory oil pressure switch located at the back of the inlet manifold, however the computer freaks out so the best solution i found was the HSV adaptor that goes where the oil filter screws in, attach the sender there and no probs. you can buy the hsv adaptors from many places, cheapest i found was online at American Auto Parts under the vy parts.
I couldn't see the point in a volt gauge, so I put in a oil temp gauge and oil pressure. I hooked the oil temp gauge up to my A4. That way at least I know the gearbox is warm before I put the foot down.
I put these on mine, Boost gauge and volt meter. Mine is a supercharged V6.
Check out - Boost Gauge
