    Default Thinking about upgrading...

As some may know I have a l67 VY Calais. However it just isn't enough power.

So in comes the world of LS1.

Got a VZ SV8 lined up, do you guys think it'll be worth it?

55k Kilometres and gonna set me back 25 grand. Worth it or not?

Or would it be better just to get a gen3 and manual trans conversion?

Big step down imo. Sure you'll gain power but the sv8's are basically an exec with a v8. I'd prefer an ss if i were going to swap over. There's plenty around for around that price.

Yea look for an SS, should be able to get one for that price. At the end of the day, you'll probably kit your SV8 to an SS kit, so the money you saved by getting an SV8 you lose. Also, changing your car engine and transmission would be a huge waste of money.

Yeah definately go the SS, the interior spec is miles ahead of the SV8. I was planning to get an SV8 then I got into an SS on a whim and couldn't go back!

$25k will easily get you a VZ SS (I got mine for $22k with 68,000 on the clock) and you'll be able to get a reasonable price for your Calais I'd think, so the changeover price won't be anywhere near that.

One SV8 I looked at was $18k with 35,000km, drove beautifully, had a short shifter and some nice aftermarket rims. Another was $17k, has spongier suspension but had leather interior (still nowhere near as nice as the SS leather though).

Dealers just aren't selling V8s right now, there are heaps that have been sitting in the yards for months and months. Great bargains to be had.

MY06 vz ss would be the go. You'll pick one up for that price with the way things are.
Great car as mentioned, plus the my06 has the 6 litre instead of the 5.7 litre.
