hi guys just bought a series 2 vy spack 5 speed manual and wanting advise on the cold air induction. i been told just do the 2 hole mod in the air box will this help or would i be better of buying a ss induction.
With the 6 cylinder it's probably better to just do the 2 hole mod. A MCAI on an S is probably overkill. Just get the air coming from behind the head light in the VY.
SS induction isn't worth the money imo. Just go with the 2 hole mod. Having said that the SS induction does give a noticable power gain in the v6 (from what i've heard), but for $500 it's not worth it.
If I were you I'd do the 2 hole mod and spend the money on some high ratio rockers. Massive power difference there.

The only thing i noticed when i finished the CAI trick with the ute is the front of the car has a distinct induction sucking sound - stick your ear next to the sucking part of a vacuum cleaner and thats what sound it makes.
Rockers don't really make that much of a difference - i've got 1.8 ratio's in mine and i'm glad i didn't pay for them.
was there anything noticeable with rockers? its been on my mind to do for some time now but still debating
Well there's a little bit of an improvement, just don't expect 40kw @ the wheels. You might get a bit more oomph if you play with the 1.9-95 as i only put in 1.8's - they were free off my friend who put a cam in.
Apparently they're a good investment if you're going forced induction down the track.
I was talking about the YT 1.9's or the FIT 1.97's and I've heard nothing but good things from them. As far as I was aware, they were the best bang for your buck buy out there. Maybe I should do a bit more research.

I probably didn't get much of a boost out of them as i'm still running the bog stock exhaust system - lots of restriction there.
When i get around to the twin 2.25" i might have something different to report.
just curious how much does a set of roller rockers go for? (a rough price)
600 plus install costs

thanks guys so do the 2 hole mod? were should the holes be put. im also thinking bout an exhaust but i dont no wat size to go either 2.5" or 3". any sugesstions on that?
2.5 will be fine. if you goto 3" you can/will lose compression and therefore horsepower on a n/a powered car

How would you lose compression through a hole in your air box? i'd have thought the less restriction you have the better? On the autospeed technical section they actually managed to get a positive pressure (about 1 psi) in the air box on a vy/z maloo.
i was refering to the size of your exhaust, not the air box mod. Sorry for the confusion

EDIT: Just read it was a reference to the exhaust. Sorry team. So, you want 3-inch or 4-inch duct that connects the world outside of the engine bay with the airbox. Ignore those people that tell you a 2-inch or 2.5 inch duct will do. You want the biggest duct possible that can be fitted in.
You still don't loose compression!
You might loose some back pressure though.
With a VY the best place to put it is at the side of the air box closest to the RH guard. Get a 90 degree elbow from bunnings or wherever and throw that on there and use the air from behind the headlight. You can quite easily fit a 90mm pipe in there. I've sized it all up for the 2 hole mod when i get time to do it!![]()
do u think the 2 hole mod is better than just replacing the air box with 1 of those big round air filters!
YES. The round air filters dont get proper cold air directed to them, hence they are exposed to warm air and start sucking up warmer air, especially if it sucks up air that comes through the radiator! Definatly better to go the 2 hole mod which grabs air at the cool spots and then transports it to the air box!
ah ok then!
wat if the round air filter had a box around it lets say that only gets air transported from the front bumper then
If you could stop the air from the radiator and engine block circulating back around then yea a circular one could be quite effective! e.g. Wat the Mondaro Cold Air Intakes have along the side which runs to the wheel (if you've seen them or even pics of them you'll understand what the wall looks like and is).
or get a round filter and get 1 to fit inside the filter box and have the two-hole mod aswell! i've heard about that on here somewhere
lol nah it's not, just hate them thats all lol
just curious is the k&n filter pannel better than the stock 1?
