Don't think they will be legal mate...

    1. I don't think there is a 22 inch tyre with a profile low enough to geet the rollind diamater legal

    2. There is no tyre that would have the appropriate load rating to be legal for a 22 inch rim.

Plus actually fitting them on will be a massive pain, you will need to pump and roll your guards to fit them without scrubbing.

Finally... 22's on anything pre VE would look alot like a toy matchbox car... but that one is just my opinion...

    Hope that helps mate..

u can get them to fit, u can buy struts from monroe which allow 24inch rims to fit on holdens without the tyre hitting the bottom of the strut, but u gotta roll ya guards, and can u really be bothers looking after those 22's u wont be able to drive anywhere without damaging them

Go 20s mate. Perfect size for a VY, 22's would look too big.

My mate has 22's on his hilux and has never had trouble with them, been through potholes and stuff, not one problem. I don't see why people have this thing about 22's been "weak" and been damaged easily.

As said. Plus, 22's would look unbelievably stupid. After all, your not driving around in a Chrysler 300c. 20's on a VY even look too big and overdone. 19's are the neatest ones to fit without looking silly.

oh boo hoo everyone saying 22's look silly... theres no problem with them, 15 years ago people thought 17's were massive!... might have a hard time getting them to fit, offset and everything would have to be spot on, some coil overs and rolling your gaurds are the minimum you would have to do...

jesterarts is however correct about your rolling diameter and load rating...
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

Thats because the guards on a Hilux are much bigger than a commodore & is higher off the ground therefore less trouble to fit the rims.
For starters 22" are more pron to damage cause there is alot less rubber around the rim.

Then again, its his choice if he wants to go 22's. Im just giving the facts!

I rekon 22's would be sweet.. I've got a VY on 20's and at times I look at it, and think that they are tooo small still..

Sure you're going to have the people that say "they look s***" or "they're too big"
or "they're illegal" or whatever.. but it is possible, and if you like the look of it, and if you can afford it!! I'd say go for it!

Check this link out, its a VT sedan, with 22's, on airbags..

    Looks alright

Up in queensland I saw a ute, with 22's... had to get a new tyre (dad drove for an hour on a flat tyre on my 20...)

And came accross this tyre shop just down from strathpine, like a 10 min drive.. that specialise in putting big wheels on commodores/fords etc.. and lowering them to the max.. with no clearance issues.. pretty much they roll the rear gaurds, trim a little section where the bumper bolts up to the body - just nick the corner off it and swap over the front struts (if going bigger than 20's) they had a company VN/VP/VQ? Ute with 22's on it sitting in the driveway, road registered... I always thought that queensland was tighter on cars modifications than NSW?? and they can get away with it..

Thats probly an exageration, this thing was sitting lucky to be 4/6 inches off the ground..

And it didnt look hell gay, the wheels filled up the gaurds nicely, from far away they just looked like a clean set of 20's the closer I got the bigger they looked...

Its all a matter of personal opinion, dazzash has already said he has seen it done, and liked it....
