    Default Oil In Water

Posting this on behalf of a local mechanic friend. He has a VY S V6 and it's getting oil in the water, it's engine oil as the engine oil level gradually drops. The WHOLE engine has been stripped and rebuilt to try and fix this but it's still doing it. The only thing that wasn't done was getting the block crack tested or sonic tested as the local shop said trying to test all the oil galleries in the block would be near impossible. Has ANYONE come accross this before with the Ecotec V6's as we are stumped.

    Cheers, Jeff.

im guessing the block was decked?

if everything has been done correctly, and its not blowing head gaskets, there either a crack in an oil gallery between coolant and oil in the head or block,

it would be rather unusual if it did though

We are picking it's a block problem, but are interested to know if anyone has come across it before. It's definatly engine oil as the level is dropping. A new block here in NZ is horrendously expensive and trying to find a good 2nd hand one is near impossible.

sounds like the bore liners might be leaking, seen this on engines before, replace the head gaskets thinking its just a blown head gasket, only to find out its the liners of the cylinders leaking at the top of the block, you can test this when the heads are off and the gaskets off, buy blocking of any hoses that aren't conected to the block that would have been connected to the heads and metal plates sealed onto the block with like a 3bond sealent over the coolant galleries at the block, one of these plates will have a tyre valve in it which you pump up and if the liners are gone it'll leak out/weep out, if easier may have to give to a machine shop to test the block, we had special ones at the dealership i worked at for the v8's (land rovers though) also seen the liners move on 4 cylinder engines too.
