calais Alt warning light

Hey guys,

my calais warning alam keeps going off today saying check alternator, the odd thing is that it will flash up an the dash for like 2 sec then go but does it again 200m down the road........

What can i do to fix it?

hey dude,

i would say alternator is shagged.

when light is on its not charging, therefore if it was constantly on you would eventually get a flat battery but as it comes on then goes off charging will be intermittant accordingly.

most likely its the reg but not sure if its internal or external on vy.

alt needs to be checked when light is on.

good luck i wouldnt leave it to long before getting something done.

I had this same problem on my last car. What it was, the rotor inside the alternator wasnt making contact with the bushes all the time, hence it was only charging intermittently.
The bushes (contacts) are spring loaded to make contact with the rotor, these springs where getting stuck from a built up of carbon & they weren't releasing.
Took out the Alternator, cleaned it all up but the prob came back in 2 months.

Yeah, best to get a new alternator.

I had the exact same problem... i changed the voltage regulator and that didn't fix it so than i changed the alternator and it was fine it hurt my wallet though
