    Default Fuse reset PCM

Ive checked the FAQ for the VY but I cant see any info on resetting the PCM. Ive found stuff on resetting the service spanner.

Ive upgraded the intake and want to force the PCM to relearn this new intake.

What fuse do I need to look for on the 2004 VYII fuse panel under the bonnet on the drivers side?

    Cheers.

It will relearn by itself in a couple of drive cycles so I wouldnt bother. BTW what intake have you upgraded to?

    Mate do this:
    1. Unplug battery and leave for 15minutes
    2. Plug battery back in
    3. Turn ignition on and leave it on for 20 seconds, then turn ignition off
    4. Turn ignition back on and start the car

I unplugged my battery once for about a minute, plugged it back in and started the car straight away without doing step 3 and the car ran fine. A few weeks later, i unplugged the battery for about 15 minutes, turned the car on straight away without doing step 3, and it ran like it had a cam in it, when you stopped it ran real rough and shit. I then did step 3, turned ignition on for 20 seconds, then off, then started the car, and fixed the problem. What that tells me is the 15minutes actually reset it whereas the 1minute didn't (well unless something else odd happened).

Thanks Adam, I have taken note of that and as the missus drives it too I dont really want it all lumpy if I can help it haha.

VT1538, I got the GTO/Monaro headlight shroud and cut a square in it so the HSV modded airbox headlight shroud can fit in it, then I unplugged the 90mm blanked off intake and that breathes through the shroud also. Its sort of a 2 hole mod but the other hole isnt a hole, its the hsv shaped inlet thingy too.

    Cheers.

I've always wondered what the benefit of resetting the computer is - i thought the computer just learnt what had happened and learnt to deal with it?

The resetting of the computer is usually done when a mechanical fault has caused the PCM to learn from bad data. For instance an intake or exhaust leak can cause the fuel trims to max out in the positive position. If restarted without a hard reset (battery disconnection or scan tool) the engine will run extremely rich until these values are learned down. A hard reset will zero these values & it will take less time to learn back to the best values.
Idle air trims are also learnt by the PCM & will be reset if the battery method is used. This is what will make the car run rough until they are relearnt.
A small change like VRCalaisMatt has made to his intake will not need much of a change to his trims so a reset is not really necessary.
