    Default exhaust mods

hey guys. Im looking to fit a 2.5inch catback exhaust on an 03 vy ute. Looking at redbacks or the good ol lukey systems, just wondering what the sound would b like out of a 3.8 V6. Do most 2.5 sound the same or will a exhaust shop be able to tune a good note out of it? ne help would b great

hey mate, just fitted up my 2.5" catback exhuast to my vy series 1 ute today, took around 10 mins to bolt up myself.

Lukey do not make one for the series 1 (single cat) only the SII, i have contacted them directly regarding this issue but nothing I could really do about it. Redback and berkley pex do have catbacks ready to go and of course exhuast shops can custom make you one up easy as.

the sound, will be greatly influenced by what u include in your setup, mine has a straight through muffler and no resonator.

a resi and conventional muffler will alter this sound,

another thing to think about is drone and if you can put up with it,

in the end its still going to sound like a 6 no matter how hard you try!
but i'd rather a louder, deeper 6 then the stock sound.

So what brand of exhaust do you have on your VY??

Does it sound nice and deep, or tinny like?? - like my old VT,
Just interested as im looking into an exhaust aswell..
And is there much drone with it?

i ended up with the berkley pex system which i was a little sceptical about being less commonly known although upon consulting a few places the general feedback i got was that, the flange system aided the pex as to being regarded as higher quality to a basic lukey catback.

Cheapest qoute i got in the act was $395 + tip ranging up to $500, i ended up getting it for $170 +$50 to my door through a exhuast shop in Victoria. I only just bolted it up myself today, but its a simple fitment so i saved alot through this.

Soundwise it is pretty much identical to my redback i had on my vs ute. Deep on idle, slightly tinny although I'll give it a week or so to fill up with carbon to get a true indication of its final sound and volume level.

drone is pretty common and as i only fitted it this afternoon i havent been for a drive to test it out as of yet. Putting in a resi may curb any drone problems i may find, but my stereo should drown out drone in the cabin anyway.

after selling the vs it didnt take long for me to fix up the new vy

Ahh ok, yeah i like the idea of the flanged joints, to aid in easy removal if ever doing any gearbox/ tailshaft - (or whatever) work.. those slide in joints can be a b**** to get out..

Is that $170 + the $50 (postage?) just for the tip, or the whole thing? lol

Yeah, drones only a problem on the odd occaision that I'd be driving an 'older - more conservative' person in the back seat, lmao.. If not the stezza would be turned up too!

I might have a google on berkley pex see what i can find,

and Jealous that you're doing your VY.. I've been driving around for almost 4 years with an almost stocko commy, (aside from lowered and wheels) - after my VT I thought i'd have a rest of the whole modd'ing cars for a bit, but getting back into it and loving it!! haha

    Cheers mate..
    Take it easy,

    S*** thats a decent price?!!

You wouldn't happen to know the name of the place do you? do you think they would post one up to the central coast, NSW??

I wouldnt mind getting one for that price - my muffler has a huge hole in it from scraping everywhere.. lol, and has had it for like 6 months, but I figure, rego's coming up needs replacing!!

Is that mandrel bent aswell?? and are you happy with it for the price you paid??

Can you either, PM me the details, or post them in here that'd be a huge help mate..

yeah it was north east exhaust and brakes i think search them on ebay, they have some on ebay atm advertised accidently as lukey but they are actually the pex system. (lukey doesnt make a series 1 catback)

its all mandrel bent, very happy with the quality, atleast equal to the redback system i paid $300 for on the vs ute and that was at mate rates.

this is an identical add to the one i purchased
HOLDEN VT-VY WAGON & UTE 2&1/2inch LUKEY SPORTS EXHAUST - eBay Full Systems, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 11-Feb-09 20:38:30 AEDST)

give them a call the bloke seemed very good to chat to about the whole thing.

pretty sure he would be keen to freight it there, he sent it to canberra no worries afterall.

    hope that helps

    Hey guys,

Hopefully tomorrow I will pick up a VZ exhaust system, off a SS.. A twin 2 1/4?? -- or 2 1/2?? cat back, I've heard this is a decent exhaust to fit to a six banger?.. Just wondering if anyone has done this, and is there a way to get it in there easily - find a set of twin cats of either a V6 or V8?? to bolt up,

Originally I thought the VY serII had twin cats, but after having another look found I was mistaken, (I've been under there many times, just always remembered the VZ's from work?!!) at the moment im thinking just find another V6 cat, and make up the pipe work to suit? does this sound like an ok way to go??

Basically, trying to get out of it cheaply, cause im a tight a***!!! and the stocko ones got a HUUUUge hole in it, lol, and found this SS one cheap as on Ebay,

    Cheers guys,

ohh and im not shy with the welder, so it'l probly be the way to go me thinks..

not sure on exact figures but i would assume a good system with good bends, good mufflers and materials will be a better quality system and will last longer

not worth a twin really on a six, or they would have to be relatively small diameter pipe,
although i would like dual exit from the rear

I wouldnt bother with a tune on a V6.Only if your s/c it.When i put extractors, exhaust and roller rockers on my old Vy v6 it was fine. But when i put a Raptor s/c in, yes it needed a tune.
