Default How to fix steering volume control

    Hi

    VY Series II Berlina.

Problem. Steering volume controls only increase volume, even the mute button.

I have searched the forums and the only answer to this problem I have found has been "Fixed under warranty"

Sadly I am the second owner and the car is not under warranty, I bought it at the gov't auctions

    So

Has anyone had any experience with this problem that can give me some hints so I can fix it myself?

    DC

think its abit technical. because from what i heard each button sends out a different voltage? and then the cd player reads it and does whatever the specific current does. dont know if thats clear but yeah. take it to a holdren dealer. dont think it would cost much

Mine did the same and the fix was to replace the controls - not a cheap fix over here - about $200 - charegd an hours labour to deactivate air bag, remove steering wheel, replace the controls and now it works.Still has a slight fault in that sometimes when the radio is off and you turn a corner and hit a bump at the same time the radio will come on. No a real problem as it has only happened twice since the steering wheel controls were replaced and the radio/CD is on most of the time anyway.

yeah the buttons will set you back about $100, i had a problem with one of my buttons broke off. so for about $160 holdens should be able to fix the issue for ya.

well i paid $97 for the buttons and then holden wanted 50 to fit them.

Or if you know what your doing with electronics you can assess the circuit yourself, if it needs new resistors, they're about 4 cents each from Dick Smith (there's only two). If you need new switches thats a bit more complicated and you will need new buttons.

All you need to do is resolder all the dry joints. simple as that. So solder each join on the board, and it should be fixed. Its just a voltage divider circuit, so if anything goes amis, everything stuffs up

I have the same issue in a VY-S ute all buttons work correctly with the exception of the volume up which actually mutes the stereo! The paint has wron pretty quick on the wheel so may just swap it out for an hsv item off a wrecker.

itol, you can either do that or remove the battery terminal from the car for a short while [about 5 minutes]. Sometimes the factory head units get confused. I know at one meet i went to the vol up turned the volume up, and the vol down button also sent the volume up! Could only turn it down by the head unit!
