Whoa man that sounds expensive, i'd shop around a bit.
Hi all im having the shocks replaced in my EF Falcon, and also my VY SS Commodore. Ive been quoted $1500 to do both with Monroe GT Gas shocks. Does this price sound a bit expensive?
Whoa man that sounds expensive, i'd shop around a bit.
yeh that sounds expensive, you can get the monroe gt sports shocks, brand new of some of the ebay stores and i think places like bursons too for $350-$370 for the complete set front and rear for a vy ss and probably bout the same for a ef falcon.
do the quoted prices include lowered/ super low king springs as well?
as the lowered and super low king springs shouldn't cost you more than $200-$220 for all four.
if the quotes include king springs to suit as well then yeh roughly about right including fitting as it would be $360 x2 for the full set of shocks 1 for the vy and 1 for the ef.
then $220 x2 for the 2 sets of springs as well. so that would be $1,160 for just the parts then $220 labour to fit each set to each vehicle, oh and don't forget alignment for both vehicles should be included in that quote, $45 roughly each vehicle for front and rear allignment(rear if vehicle has rear adjustment).
sounds ok in that sense, but if just shock and no springs then yes shop around, but if includes springs then not bad.
can still shop around though if you want.
if not already go super lows on the vy ss as lows sit at the same as the factory fe2, super lows sit about 1.5" lower than it would be factory, unless you want to maintain same hight.
price is not inclusive of springs, shocks only and includes labour and alignments
You can do the rears yourself in half hour and its dead easy seriously. So save your cash there and do them yourself. If your not competent with under the car then leave the fronts to your local mechanic. Also is this a mechanic quote or a suspension shop quote. You will often find your local mechanic will get the apprentice to do that sort of stuff and have heaps cheaper quotes for stuff like that as they still get full discounts on the parts from their suppliers.
Just buy the set of 4 & fit them urself, its fairly strait forward in the VY, not sure about the EF.
U can half that price just by doing DIY.
Give u an idea i paid $160 a pair for the GT gas (rears) 4 my VZ SV6 & fitted them myself, front may be abit more expensive.
U wont need a wheel alignment for the rear shocks as the car will be sitting on the springs.

is it hard to do the back? ok im thinking i might jsut buy all the parts, and do what i can and get my parents neighbour (mechanic/engineer) to do the front for a slab of beer, thing is the $$$ i was going to 12 month interest free finance it so i didnt have to fork up the cash up front
no springs then very expensive, talk to your parents neighbour then, get the part numbers of the monroe website and either get him to get them or you get them and while he does the fronts you could do the rears and yeh the rear is dead easy, two bolts one top and one at the bottom, slide it out and new one in, recomend front and rear wheel alignments, that way you know front and rear are ok, i got just my front alignment done, only to find out when i changed tyres 4 weeks later the rear was way out on one side scrubbing the left rear tyre out, so recomend a full alignment for an extra $10 on top of front alignment to be safe.
Personally, apart from price I think the first problem is the Tenneco GT Gas Shocks he's been quoted on... I'd be looking at a better quality shock like Boge or KYB, both of which should be around the same price, if not cheaper.
We could supply KYB shocks for both cars for $739 delivered, as has been said, give the rears a crack yourself, pay a mechanic no more than $300ish to fit both sets of front shocks, then $120ish for two alignments. You've saved over $300, and got far better quality shocks...

2 Bolts, VZ only has 1 bolt on top. Must be a slightly different setup.
You wont need a rear wheel alignment, i didnt. When i did my rear shocks i just reversed the car up onto the ramps & then took the shocks out. Wheels never left the ground.

don't need to do alignment for rear but for an extra $5-$10 per car you might as well get it checked while your there to make sure all ok since last alignment (sometimes factory for some cars) and to prevent excessive rear tyre wear from it possibly being out.
So how do you change the rear shocks? do you need to jack it up and just simple as unbolt, and bolt on new ones? Do you need to remove the wheel?
