pjwooly, it's in your owners manual! Many people say it does mystical things, it doesn't do much at all.

Jbird, SS cop cars didn't have traction control included. Hence the no button! I'm fairly sure that it wasn't even an option to put in, but i'd have to get home to check the BT1 choice sheets to be 100%.

when i meant it had no button, means it has no traction control. Try droping a standstill, if u start frying tyres u have no traction control which means ur ss is possibly a ex cop. I am pretty sure all vy SS models came with the the traction control button

Correct. Utes do not come out with traction control. The power button enables a different set of transmission shift tables in the calibration. This will alter shift points, pressures etc.

my vy ss is an ex cop car and does not have traction control button, if i do a u turn and let it rip it will bag it up down the road till up shifts to next gear and grips traction, it will also spin it off the line as well for a tiny bit (gutless stocky), but will also do what others have mentioned before that if the rear end steps out it will gently bring it back straight, although could be just me quickly taking the foot of the accelerater, but will loose traction easy if i chomp it in the wet at say 100km/h. but not sure if has traction, has power button though next to auto shifter.

Sounds like it doesnt, my car corrects itself in the wet before it steps out waaaay too much. I had to turn traction control off yesterday! it's a LOT more noticeable if you dont have it!

yeh it doesn't flash up a traction control warning light like most vehicles do when they brack traction, but when i put it on the rollers at trade school when they were showing us efi live on a course i did it flashed the abs warning light up on the rollers so don't know if thats normal for cars to do that or what.

i might have to contact holden to find out or the police to get specs apparently they have all that on file at there workshop in melbourne.

Yea, all specs are at the workshop.

As for the ABS issue, i've come across that, i was doughnutting on gravel with traction off (of course) and ABS issue came up, had to restart my car twice to get it to go away. It's just the ABS getting all confused. Just tell Holden at the service not to worry about it and that you know all about it.

EDIT: This is from the Police Spec Production Options chart from Holden:

Traction Control is deleted from "SS" models with P.O. A8V
And looking across the chart not even the V6's had the traction control included. Only the "unmarked undercovers" would have it (the ones you can't tell the difference from) because they're not police spec models.

oh ok, i'll have to suss it out then, from what i know it was an unmarked car and from what a holden tech pointed out about certain things on the car, still had some of the orriginal earth fittings for the sirens that sit on the far sides of the parcel shelf, but thanks for that will look into it deeper.

yeh had to turn the ignition on and of twice for it to go away.

oh mines and ex cop and doesn't have it, it's not that there pressing something else?
mine has a lights dimming switch behind the window switches but not hooked up anymore and the interior light only the center part works, its got the little map lights in it aswell and they don't work might be something to do with the light dimmer switch behind the window switches. i changed the little globes thinking it would just be that but no good, and the main light in it works so must be something to do with the switch as the little map lights and interior light are all one unit in the center of the roof.
