Default VY ACCLAIM REAR >> VZ EXEC / BERLINA REAR or something of the sort??

    hi all,
I have a vy acclaim, ive got super lows all round.
Im not really a fan of the rear lights in the vy and want lights more like vz exec or even vy/vz berlina (not sure which one?) ive heard that you have to replace the whole rear bar to fit the lights? im willing to do this but just wanting to know the best way to do it. and how much is a reasonable price to pay for parts and fitting?
    cheers

Yeah, to fit the VZ lights you need to replace the rear bumper - as the lights a like 2inches longer...

I did it on my VY, put come VZ calais lights in there, got a VZ rear bumper sweet as.. if you know how to use a phillips head screw driver and a 10mm spanner i'd say do it yourself, if not probly get a panelbeater/mechanic to do it.. not sure how much they'd charge?

I got the tail lights genuine from holden, IMO the copies dont fit quite as nicely - but still look alright I suppose... Not 100% sure how much I paid for them, got them trade price - was fairly reasonable..

And the bumper bar I scored second hand from Oz Car Parts (a while back now - more than a year or so...) they have heaps of body kits for newer model commies and must fit them also, so they had a VZ rear bar sitting there - got it for $50, then painted it myself, to save more $$

I need to get the Crome strip around the number plate one day to finish it off, (and there is a little plastic strip with reflectors in it at either end, along the bottom of the bumper bar in the groove there, on the calais... although I think it looks cleaner without it there?!)

If you fitted genuine VZ Calais tail-lights, then you wouldn't have any reflectors, which is why they were fitted to the lower bumper facia in the insert you referred to. If this is the case, your car is illegal. Have you checked the rear of your car at night to see if you have any reflectors in your taillights?

They don't have any reflectors and are illegal. Just spend the $20-30 bucks and get the insert.

Haha thanks for that... I dont need to check it.. I know theres none in there..

Its been like that for almost four years now, passed a few pink slips, and numerous random breath tests... With a few picky cops..
YES it is a requirement to have them on there, thats why I mentioned it in the first place..
As far as I see its always parked off the street at night, and if its close to sunset, I always have the headlights/parkers on, cause I like to, (since the new dash is in even more of a reason..) sooo visibility shouldnt be an issue with it - just the fact that you NEED them on there.

I will look into getting them in the near future if they're only $20 - $30, I thought they'd be worth more than that, just paint the middle bit blue to blend in a bit better..

    Josh----

Cheers man, I like it too.. beats the good ol' stocko VY ones..
Yeah im pretty sure the VY - VZ Calais tailights are the same, or very close to it.. I painted the bumper with a spray gun, compressor and some sandpaper? lol.. and a bit of thinners!! Just like you normally would, (I reccomend a fairly experienced person to spray it, you want it to look decent, and try to get a good colour match!!)
