Question planning to pick up a vy ss ute next week

    need a little help.

I went to look at a nice vy ss ute today and think i will be going to get it next week. The only thing i was not sure about was that if say i was cursing in 3rd and i put my foot down it would feel like it would sort of pull to the right just for a second and then if i came rite off the gas quickly is would slightly dip the left under engine breaking for a second if you know what i mean? Everything else feels good and don’t get me wrong it is only a very tinny wiggle rather than a pull.

This is the first ss vy that i have driven and had a chance to give it a little stick. Does this sound normal?

NEVER buy the first car you look at. Or should i say, never buy it without first looking at other cars.

The pulling you mention sounds very much like a snapped cradle, but i don't think they even have IRS

oh independent rear suspension? if thats it then yeah they do according to what i have read. this one has a camber kit on the back so i wonder if that is just set wrong?

Nah, wrong camber wont cause that problem. In the early model IRS commodores, the cradles are prone to snapping. The thing your describing with the pulling, is exactly how my car drove when mine was snapped.

The shit IRS design is said to have been fixed my VX II, so it should be fine. Its something i'd atleast check anyway.

yeah thanks for that. I am going to get an rac check done anyway and was going to make sure they have a look at the cause of that for me but if that were the problem would that cost me much to fix?

I am getting the car for 20,000 which from what i can see is a good price seeing as it is in good condition and has all of the ss optional extras or is that an average sort of price?

sorry i know thisa is like 20 questions but this will be my first V8 and i do not know much about theese cars yet. I sold my car today and then when i went to see this one i loved it. i have an R34 skyline at the moment which is a really great car to drive and is quick but i just could not stop grinning every time i felt that v8

for 20,000, you must be in WA. If your in the eastern states, look around more, cause you'll find a cheaper one. You should ask all the models specific question in the VY section for a better answer.

Not sure on the cost to fix a late model cradle, mine was $200 just for the cradle tho.

in the eastern states, 20k is still on par depending on what options you have..like leather, series two, hardtop, manual etc..

haha yeah drink holders would be nice but i think i am going to stick with this one.

People are asking too much for these cars as it is! i have not really seen many in this price range even though the insurance companies will not even insure them for more than $21,000 from what i have found. Yet people are asking as much as $26,000 for one that is pretty much standard.

At least this one looks nice, is in good condition has a few extras like the exhaust, a camber kit and has been lowered a bit.

Any way i have agreed to buy it now and unless there turned out to be something wrong with the car i am not the sort of person to back out of a deal at the last minute leaving the guy hanging.

other than the dash and the exhaust is there any other real difference between the SI and SII?

I had the car in yesterday lunch time and got it back after work. turns out that it was the camber kit. some of the main bolts had fallen out. They fixed it all up and did a couple of other bits and bobs for me. came to $206 drives beautifully now
