Where abouts can i buy straight pipes to bolt into place were cat converters are on me vy ss 2.5" or 3". Has anyone done this if so does it make the exhaust any louder or better performance. CHEERS
Go to your local exhaust shop they will be happy to do it for you. Im not sure about performance etc but removing restrictions is always a good plan.
You dont want it too free flowing though.

in SA i think the fine is about ten grand to "knock out" your cats. your car is designed to run with cats so it may well do more harm than good, if money is tight leave them, otherwise buy some high flow ones.
Or goto a shop and ask them to back the cat out? Make it look like a cat is there when there is nothing inside them! Works when a cop pulls you over!
And according to a couple of mates it will help the flow of gases, so you'll be able to get more power, so long as your car can also pull in enough air. [Breath in, breathe out].
Cats aren't that restrictive actually.
Will those couple of mates pay the fine when he is caught?
How would he get caught? EPA tests dont inlcude unwelding the cats to see if they've got anything in them! So they'd just say they're probably broken! And they're more restrictive than youd think! Put none on and you'll find out how restrictive they are! Mufflers arn't anywhere near as bad! It's because of the catalyst inside them to kick start making the safe gases!

You wouldn't really hear it since you do still have the mufflers! See it, it will look the same still. Only thing would be the smell, in which case it's most probably a malfunctioning cat, so you'll be told to fix it?
you would be able to hear it. a gutted cat sounds crap and makes noise. you can see the difference in the smoke coming out the back

straight pipe aint illeagal in vic, u look at every holden v6 especialy and they all have straight pipes. I got one on my vy and it does blow any smoke or anything, just makes ur car sound a little better. But ive seen them on a SS and the only problem i see is they it will be too loud, ive seen a cop measure how much dB a car is.
As far as i know when u take to a exhaust shop they just chop the rear muffler and put a straight pipe through

I wonder how long before this thread gets shut down. So I'll say this before it does.
Senator Slash....since you're in NZ you can get away with comments like that.
Alien....you're a knob for condoning the removal of cats. And so is anybody else for suggesting or agreeing with it.
You can have a fast car that sounds good without doing anything illegal.
haha yeah atleast the cops wouldnt get to close.
I say do it so we can all laugh when you get rectally reamed by the EPA.

And believe me, i know you can have a fast car that sounds good without doing anything illegal.
And just so you know, cats dont reduce the sound by much anyways, that's the job of the mufflers. Cats are simply there to be a catalyst for chemical reactions to create safer gasses.
Gutted cats tend to echo
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
Which is generally why you should leave them on... If you've ever heard a car with a hollowed out cat you'll agree it sounds like crap. If you put on straight pipes where the cats used to be you wouldn't have this problem as there'd be nothing to echo in, though i don't support this at all.
Thanks people for the input im going to go with hi flow cats ,the rest of the exhaust has been done so now the stock cats must go.
or you could weld pipes through your cats its still illegal but less chance of gtting caught but it does make your cats smaller diamiter better to go high flow
