vy s tinted tail lights, an painted grille

i just tinited my vy s pacs tail lights, one coat was dark enough. i also did about 4 coats of a clear coat all up around 25 buxs preety happy with it!!!

What paint do you use to make your brake lights appear darker. I know septone makes good paint to do your engine, brakes, interior etc. Would love to buy SS lights which have the tint but they are like over $200 a set on ebay which is a little ridiculous.

Grill looks awesome but the tinted lights on a white car don't really work for me.

Tinting your lights may well attract attention from authorities (Police, RTA, MVA, etc) as vehicle will no longer comply with ADR standards that existed at time vehicle was manufactured.

Better pack some lube because some cop is going to have fun reaming you for tinting them that dark.

yer thats what i originally wanted was the ss lights but the price put me of. its called night shades get it at autobahn for about 13 bux and all you need is one very light spray on each of them and i also brought a clear coat and did about 4 coats of that to lighten them up and you get a better finish smoother an shinier they look very dark in the pic but there not that dark you can see the lights through them

I think it's just up to the cops discretion on whether they are legal or not. The clear coat would have made them be a lot darker to look at so whether that changes the illumination of the light I don't know.

Grill looks sick, Not really a fan of the lights, Should of gone the VY SS tail lights, They're slightly darker, Makes the car look a lot cleaner.

Well no way 1 light coat would have them darker then that so that's why I thought the clear coat must have made them appear darker. Maybe the pics make them look darker than they really are.

I Had To Do 4 Coats Of Nightshade And 5 Clear And About 30mis Each Of Buffing And They Are Smooth As

I suggest getting some paint thinner and cleaning off the lens paint where the blinkers and reverse light are, just to give it a bit of contrast

Not a fan of the lights. They look good on dark cars, but not sure on the white. At the end of the day though, if you like it thats all that matters!

You'll be fine with the shading. just tell the cop they are calais tail lights. they are almost the same shade.

its just a standard holden black grille that has been sprayed with a metallic silver and clear coat on top.

I think you can get away with tinting tail lights as long as you don't go overboard with too many coats. Extremely dark tail lights will still comply provided that the globes are of sufficient wattage to be seen clearly through the tinting.

If anybody can remember them, Fairlanes and LTD's had "black" tail lights as standard in the late 70's and early 80's on ZK and ZL models (I think they are the correct model designations - they came out at the same time as the XD and XE Foulcans). In daylight, the lights were black - you couldn't see any red tinge at all, but when the lights were illuminated, the colours were clear to see. Naturally, the reversing lights remained clear (ie "white")
