Depends what speed you are dragging to. Ecotec will be better off the line, then the Alloytec will take off.

VZ will win... and here are the numbers to prove it...

    VY
    Power: 152kW @ 5200rpm
    Torque: 305Nm @ 3600rpm

    VZ
    Power: 190kW @ 6500rpm
    Torque: 340Nm @ 3200rpm

Now you also need to consider the fact the VZ sv6 is actually 43kg heavier that the VY, so you have an extra .5 of a mate with you...

Finally... although we all know factory 0-100kmph numbers normally mean bugger all...

The VY will apparently do it in 8.5 seconds while the VZ will do it in about 8.3 (I think).

    That's stock for stock anyway...

So yes... a VZ will be quicker off the line and get upto speed quicker... but not by very much

It has more torque sooner and more power up top...

both manuals, vz gets a bad start, you get a good launch, your in with a chance.

but on paper, VZ will eat you.

Not worth the risk of losing to your gf's friend. She'll never let you forget it.

dont also look at the engine specs, look at the gearbox ratios, the aisin box has a first gear of 4.5:1 even with the 2.87:1 this makes for a pretty good launch, not sure what the getrag 1st is like, but it has a 3.08 diff,

lsd or single spinner will make a differance too

if a 3.46 diff was fitted to the sv6 and that first gear you could launch into space with it

not a huge feat there mate. NA XR6 BA autos are slugs. ive seen heaps of ecotecs eat them.
wanna better match up? take on a EF/El XR6 manual.

Depends where you're planning on "seeing which is quicker"

On public roads = don't be a tool

On a private road/track = go for it...

Getrag 260 1st gear is 3.8 or 3.9 off the top of my head.
