Ok, So my uncle is a tyre fitter and does all the wheels stuff. He told me, No use getting 20"s on stock suspension unless you get coil over springs and what not, He said putting 20"s on a VY is a big waste of money, He said rolling the gaurds would just make the paint crack if not now, but later along the track and camber kit you'd just go through tyres way to quick.
So i went to the tyre factory and looking at some wheels, found some and asked what size they where as i was unsure and the bloke said 20"s. To cut a long story short he said 20"s will fit, and maybe need to roll the gaurds.
So im really unsure on what size rim to get, 19"s are fine by me, but i'd prefer 20"s if they where no trouble. lol. Anyway help would be appreciated. Thanks.
20's will fit with guards rolled no probs. I'd go 19's though. Just a personal preference.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
only thing with 19's is tyres are more exspensive and heaps harder to find
most annouying thing about trying to find 19"s is alot of designs are in 18"s, 20"s and skip 19"s . but ide also go for 19"s as they still look realy nice and are les trouble.

Yeah, Thats what i was exactly thinking. Go 19's for less worry. Yeah, I know whatcha mean about 18-20's, Every rim ive looked at that i like either come in 18-20-22 or 20-22-24, lol.
Anyways, Ill keep looking, Thanks for the help.
I got 20's on my WH statesman, and yer you do lose some of the comfort (ride),its depends on the tyre as well (hard/ soft compound)
did you do the whole over coil suspension thing? or just roll the gaurds and camber kit it?
their are so many different views, some swear by 19's, some swear by 20's.
personally i think you should go all out with the 20's, it might cost more but will be worth it in the end.
19's get boring after a while, you will regret getting them because your always thinking, hmmm i should have gone an inch more, or these rims do look to small (19's do look small on vy's)
i know from personal experience, i was sold some 19 inch advanti viennas of a family friend for cheap, spent 800 on tyres, and now i honestly think they look to small on my car, and im always questioning myself why i didnt go that further step ( or inch should i say).
just do it, go the 20's, it will all be worth it in the end
cheers james
So you think roll the gaurds? get 20's? Or over coil suspension? I know over coil suspension will cost around $1500-2000 alone. plus wheels and tyres, thats another $2500.
So confusing, lol. If only i could just slap the 20's on and not worry about anything.
Anyone had there gaurds rolled? and what are the chances of paint cracking and stuff being messed up?
I would go 19" just the rite size imo not too much hasssle prob just guard rollin if ur gettin wide ones like mine 19x9.5 rear not too much comfort is loss too. Wit guard rollin i fink no1 gauruntees paint wont crack i could be wrong but GOODLUCK!!

yeaahh, i'll prob go 19's, hopefully find some decent ones tho, can anyone lead me in the right direction for some good wheel sites with all brands, Ive been to BSA, Speedy, G.max and all them, But they have nothing im really looking for. Kinda looking for a 5 black spoke rim, With a Chrome lip, and the spokes about the size of a VE SSV rim. Also, The guy at tff said it had a 5% chance cracking.
well its obvious you want 20's, just get them. even if the paint cracks it's not much to get it fixed - i was quoted $150 to get my front guards plus brake light done a while back.
Go 19's, if you find the right style they can set the car off and even have people questioning if they are 20's. I fitted 19's to my VY SS and they look great, while my son fitted 20's to his VX SS and has had no end of problems and has gone through two sets of tyres while I have still got another couple of months before I am due to change my rears.
Thanks for all the help, Im going 19's, Found some, But in the process of seeing if they fit my car and if the stud pattern is the same, Thanks again.
ive got 20 inch signature series on my s pac with lowered lovell springs and i didnt get my guards rolled!!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't say hard to find, but they are damn sure more expensive, more so for 20's.
@OP: Personally I think 18's look the goods and don't hurt the hip pocket quite so bad.
Suggest you get some quotes for decent tyres in 18/19/20 just so you have some idea of what you're getting yourself into.

The hieght isn't the factor you need to worry about (you could put 22's on a vy) it's the width. I've got 245's and got a bit of rubbing on the tyre, but a mate got 225's and had no troubles whatso ever. It all depends on personal choice tho so found a rim you love and get it wheather it is 19" or 20".
245's are the minimum tyre size for a VY wheel, Whoever fitted them is either stupid or is trying to kill your friend. Insurance will not cover him, Its dangerous.
Good luck with the over streched wheel.![]()
My 2003 VY Holden Commodore
I had 19's on my VY acclaim and now have 20's on my VZ berlina.
Not that much difference in the ride imho.
I much prefer the look of 20's but also depends on the style of the wheel.
20 x 8's are fine, I have 245/30's fitted to them and some minor guard rolling in the rear is all i had to do and i mean minor. I dont run a camber kit though and after 6 months they are wearing pretty well.
I couldnt go back to 19's now cos they would look very small. But then again im used to the 20's and they look small to me now unless you are real far away lol
Its all a personal choice. You are the one that has to drive it, be seen in it and accept any extra attention you get...
All i'll say is may sure what ever you do is legal and you wont get defected
travy, wouldnt 20's on a vz berlina be illegal, or do they come with 18's?
you will find that all Commodores have 18" listed on the tyre placard, and the Holden By Design 18s were optional on all models.
nice!
that sounds pretty good.
so if i put 20's on i should be right!
