Hey,
i've got a holden vy berlina, 5.7 v8 04 model,
Its alternater Alert goes off.. the battry light goes on and off. turns the aircon off, turns trac off, abs, radio.. n then goes on and off for all of them.. would it be alternator going out? or battry??
i'd say alt. Battery wouldnt do silly things like that, I think. (Correct if wrong.)
yeah.. it only comes after a while.. as in it'll idle for a while.. rev it for a bit nthen it starts going silly
If it does it while your driving it's definately the alternator...
Little test, when it comes up, chuck her in Neutral and rev the fark out of it... If the warning light disappears it's definately alternator.
Try get it fixed ASAP, as if the battery goes flat the car shuts down. Not a good thing to have an engine cut when your driving.
However if it's not starting after leaving it for a while it's battery.
Another test, when you start the car (just put it on accessories), hold "Mode" & "Set". press mode until it goes to battery voltage. Check that before you start, check after you start. After started it should be sitting around 14.4 fairly constantly. If it drops to below 11 volts (Not quite sure, anyone?) it'll set off the warning. Again Neutral it and rev, if the volts go back up I'd say alternator related for sure (could be the actual alternator or just the governor).
Hope this helps![]()
