Do the V6 VY Tonners use a lock up converter? I assume so. Ours doesn't work, ever, which could explain the shithouse fuel economy.
Any common problems I should look for or is it likely just worn out?

still wondering about this one

stop by an auto trans guy and get him to test drive it, pretty sure lock-ups are standard on most new cars seeing that fuel economy is fast becoming the most important selling point. Keep in mind they only drop when you are cruising and the slightest change in bow pressure caused by even the slightest acceleration will lift the revs the few hundred revs
Yeah I'm pretty familiar with the lockup feel, had a few problems with it in my 2 cars before so I can definitely tell when it's locked and when it isn't. Their 1 Tonner NEVER locks up ever.. which makes me think it could be a buggered auto that causes their shit fuel economy.

It should lock up. My base spec VY ute does at about 71 or 72km/h and you can feel it.
Does the paper clip trick still work with the VY's?

Dunno, I never looked into logging the codes in it. Should take it in to the service centre at work and get them to do a diagnostic on it..
