Update:
About a month ago the airbox blew while I was driving, scared the shit out of me thought I blew a tyre but then the car ran fine, The airbox wasn't completely destroyed so I glued the small pieces that came off back together n it held pretty well, had to run it on petrol for a couple of days until I could get it fixed as running it on petrol puts less strain on the engine (I was told) 650 bucks later I had an LPG gas tune, new airbox, new leads and it now runs pretty damn well on LPG, hardly notice the difference between gas and petrol now.

have recently arrived in cairns after 5 days of driving, the car was reliable and made the trip with a trailer and everything I own packed into it...my girlfriends car however (a '95 corolla) wasn't as lucky and died 5 hours out of mackay with a huge hole in the engine. So we packed my car and the trailer with everything that was in her car ...and it was alot, all in to my car. All is good though..it was a long drive and im happy to be settled again..the car drove well without any hick-ups...soon after I got here though the air conditioning stopped working, I went to see a local guy about getting it regassed and he gave me a speel about how you can't just dump gas into a car..if the gas is empty it's because there is a leak...is this correct? or is he just trying to extract money out of me? I remember getting my first car (an '88 corolla) regassed and had no issues with that, they just regassed it and I was on my way. I'm going to ask around town today at a few different service centers and try to find the best price and service, if anyone lives in cairns I would love to hear your views on the local service centers and which ones you use. I'd also be up for a cruise aswell...get to know some locals as I don't know anybody up here yet.

Why did you move to Cairns bud? Should have moved to Townsville, much larger town, and more of a Commodore scene - not to mention 2500 Victorians have moved here in the last 2 months that doesnt include all there families too, due to the army relocating Battalion/Regiment's from Victoria to Townsville, have seen allot of nice Commodores here lately with Victorian plates.
That said, you deffs need Aircon up here, I had the same problem but it just needed to be regassed. Only cost me $50 and its ice cold from a guy in Townsville. I think he's taking you for a ride.
Yeah I thought it seemed like a bit of b/s...I"ve moved to cairns with my missus as she's studying up here at james cook university to become a VET, n since she's gonna be making big money in the future and paying for my future commodores and pimped out mods lol, best to stay with her haha. (j/k working and supporting her at the moment) but yeah I will probably be moving down to townsville next year so she can finish her course...its a bit all over the shop with the different classes she has to do but theres a james cook campus down there aswell. sucks about your car getting impounded I was just reading about it a few mins ago...we live and we learn I guess..some people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time...thanks for your input mate

Well if you ever come down I can hook you up with the guy that done mine for next to nothing. Its going into the shops to get bagged very soon the only one in Townsville(Accuair) have allot of people interested in how it turns out, so if you ever consider it, I can give you engineer details. And cops mucked up so I got it back quick smart
Also thats odd, the Campus in Townsville is the largest university in Northern Australia, and I think in the top 5 biggest uni's in the Southern hemisphere or something I heard.
good to hear you got it back, why did they take it in the first place?, I was a bit suprised when the a/c guy said he would have to see what broke in order to regas it so I ended up calling them up and saying I was too busy that day to go in because I didn't trust them. I was expecting about $70 for a regas and he quoted me $125+ "whatever may have broken" which just screamed "we"re going to rob you blind", I doubt I"ll be bagging mine any time soon, next on my list...which I also bought before I came up here, is some 19" SSV rims to be powder coated black....I actually had my car up in the shop and had agreed to the price the tyre place wanted for a set n then they said they wouldn't give me anything for the tread I had on there...so that was a deal breaker and just tipped the cost a bit too high considering I was about to move, If I was staying down in melbourne I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat...$1100 with tread...but trade in with my rims...ended up being too steep since my rims are only 2 years old. The rims I have on it were perfect on my old car...but just too small for a commodore...still looking for that perfect set to match my baby

took the car in to get the aircon looked at the other day, can't remember exactly what he said something along the lines of "she's chucked a hose" n to me that sounded like a cheap fix but then he quoted me $700 bucks to fix it and possibley another $1,100 for somthing else involved with the aircon....wtf, what are my options here guys cos im not spending that kind of money on my aircon...is it possible to go to pick-a-part n grab some old aircon bits out of another commodore?...most commodore aircons would be the same right?...if not what years/model's am I limited to and what is a reasonable price to get a problem like this fixed

Lol man, I got quoted for an entire unit and condessor etc $110 from the wreckers, he'd strip it from the car and all I had to do was fit it myself which ivolved taking the front bar off.
Taping up the side mirror of the car with black electrical tape...true class
was it a complicated thing to do though? because I'd be going in there with no idea about aircon's...I'd probly do more damage than good

Got a slight leak coming through the same area as the bonnet release lever next to drivers right leg, drips onto my foot on occasion if it rains heavily...any idea where I should start looking for whats causing it? it wont be the door seals because its coming from above but other than that don't really know where to start

Found where my leak is coming from, it was a door seal after all, a little bit of the rubber has come loose so I"ll be sealing that up soon (parked undercover atm so not an issue). What kind of glue/sealant should I use? don't want to damage anything. Also been thinking quite a bit lately of all the things I want done when the money comes in (bit strapped for cash atm) so as you do when you can't spend it...you start day dreaming about spending it, so here is my latest list of things I want to do.
Aircon fix - Replacement unit from wreckers. (Didn't require replacement just got a regas)DONE
Door Seal fix. DONE...Pending heavy rain to see if it worked 100%
19" VE SSV's or 18" VZ SSZ's.
SS head & tail lights.
Full detail.
Overall I think I will need about 2k to play with to get it where I want it.

How's the rain up there? We've had like some 300mm's of rain down here in Townsville in the past 24-48 hrs, been nuts. Took the Commy out for a drive today and gave up and came home and wiped her down.
Like I said I paid $80 for an entire new condenser etc
And if your getting the tail lights, make sure to get SS VZ tail lights![]()
I love Silver VY/Z's I was gonna buy this one for $11,000 with 95,000kms from Gold Coast.

not bad man...seems like whoever owned it had some serious skitzophrenic personality going on, HSV badge on the back, SS guard flutes on the sides and chev badges lol, looks like it was originally an SV6? n looking at the wheels...their clean but im sure glad I didn't go all black, they"re a bit plain.

also as for the rain, its been absolutely belting down right now, n so it really flowed in through the leak while I had it parked at work the other day. Definately liking the look of those darker lights instead of the standard tail-lights

Got my car booked in for tomorrow to get the air con sorted, took it in today to a wreckers to find the replacement parts for it and the bloke at the wreckers said there was nothing wrong with any of my hoses, so he sent me around the corner to another repair/servicing shop n said to get glow-gas put through it and they will be able to find the problem. They to busy to do it today but hopefully by tomorrow afternoon I will be back in business![]()

UPDATE: Air-con temporarily fixed, took it in today to a different workshop (not auto FNQ) and they said they couldn't see anything wrong, said I most likely have a slow leak somewhere so they regassed it for me n its all sweet for now, I think they used glow-gas because he said if/when it leaks again they"ll be able to find the source straight away. Absolutely pumped to have aircon again because im tired of being sticky, Lesson from all this?...if it sounds overpriced and rediculous...go and get a second or third opinion because it probably is. I'm very glad I didn't just say yes to the $700 and I'm pretty p.o'd at them anyway because I know there are people out there that would have just trusted them, I don't blame their whole workshop but I'm not happy with the 2-3 guys that looked at it and quoted that price. If anybody here is from cairns and knows the guys that run FNQ auto-air let them know that things aren't on the 100% up and up in there.
Cost - $110 for regas
Quoted - $700 for new unit
End result +$590 = Win

Gave my car a clean up the other day, one thing I"ve found with silver cars & rims is, if the rims are spotless the whole car looks clean lol, hadn't cleaned my rims for a while and it makes a massive difference, gave them a quick clean and then sprayed some tyre shine on and it looked like a whole new car.
A/C leaked out pretty much straight away, took it in to get looked at on friday and they found it was a pipe at the front right of the engine bay (sorry no pics of late using a new computer) near where the passenger side headlight is. It had been rubbing against other metal and a hole formed. Getting it fixed on tuesday.

Aircon is all sweet now, cost me $150 to get the pipe fixed and I am now back in the cool again.
Total end result
Original Quote $700
New workshop - Regas with glow-gas - $110
New pipe + Labour - $150
Total $260
End result I'm +$440![]()
