Default My '05 VZ interior mods

    Hi guys,

I would like to know what you guys think about my mods on the interior of my VZ ute.

I've always been a DIY, save some money type of person so I'll list what I've done so far.
    1) Made leather seat covers from scratch, bought myself an old industrial sewing machine and a cow hide, asked mum for some advice and thought I'd give it a shot. Got rid of all the old cloth trim.
    2) Made up some leather door cards
    3) Made a leather shifter boot and handbrake surround
    4) Bought an old damaged centre console and fixed it up then sprayed a carbon fibre effect finished off with auto clearcoat. The fascia around the headunit needs re-doing, it turned out a bit lighter than the rest of the dash, that's what happens when you try and colour match paint at night.
    5) Other bits and pieces to make the interior look a bit more modern such as silver door handles, handbrake and gear shifter accents.

    6) Sound system: Kenwood HU, Sony 6.5" Splits, Fusion 12" 1000W Sub next to the fuel tank and Sony 600W amp under the front seat all wired under the carpets. Nothing too fancy here but still packs a punch.

That's basically it for the time being. It didn't turn out 100% perfect but I'm pretty happy with it, I'm running out of things to do inside so the next projects are:

    1) Found a hard lid from the wreckers with one end completely cracked, it's just a plain flat one so I'll mold a couple of things into it then respray - not too sure what and when yet.
    2) Attempt to make a maloo sailplane or something similar. Holden wants way too much for these so I'll see what I can do and hopefully save a bit of money there too.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the good replies! Before the leather I had ProSeat seat covers off eBay. If anyone is looking at getting some I would strongly advise you not to. They're sold as something called re-born leather - which is a total lie. Basically they are cheap thin vinyl, it smells, you stick to it and it looks like shit.

The headunit I got a while back around the $600 mark, it's now a discontinued model but I did see it on Ryda a few weeks ago for $500. It's a DDX5026 and has quite a lot of options but you need separate modules for most of it to work, i.e nav, tv, bluetooth.

Slipper the cf effect was pretty difficult, I used metallic black and silver auto paint. I would suggest finding an old centre console to do up rather than risk it going wrong on the one you have in the car. You will have to get it primed first then a black basecoat, you then need to get some sort of template for the cf and spray silver through that, once that's dry I then mixed some black and silver and moved the template over slightly and then sprayed throught that again. Take off the template and airbrush over some of the pattern with streaks of the mixed paint. Once the cf is done I had to do a clearcoat on that area so I could mask off the centre and spray that. Once again just mixed some black and silver to get it similar to the colour of the vents/instrument cluster and a coat of that then another clearcoat.

It's quite a lot of work but if you have the tools lying around it's really not too bad.

    Cheers
