that boot install looks great mate bet she would crank 2....goodluck with it![]()
I've been a busy little beaver since the car got skippied.
I took it in for it's LS1 Edit. All I can say is OH MY GOD! The car went from "yeah ok it's an 8, but where's all the kick", to "Holy sh*t! What was that!".
Needless to say I was grinning ear to ear when I rolled it off the dyno. For the figure chasers, with just a Cat back exhaust and a K&N intake it had 182Kw @ the rears. With the Edit it went to 225.3Kw @ the rears. Big difference.
But I was still not happy with the Auto. It just didn't feel responsive enough. I've heard talk about 'drive by wire' or something but I still felt it should be more responsive. So I went shopping again.
I found my love in a B&M Shift Improver Kit. Had to specially order it, apparently there's not a lot of call for them in Australia, go figure. Well how to describe this marvel...
Crazy. That about sums it up. Every gear change breaks traction, scary. It even feels as though it has more to offer so next week we are shifting the redline up a further 500rpm to bring it to a 6000rpm redline. To describe the shifting of the transmission now it's farily well akin to flat shifting in a manual. The cars only drawback at the moment is because of the shifting it doesn't like wet roads.
So looking to the future will be the redline shift next week. Further down the track, probably around November, will be my Vortech Supercharger Kit. I forsee a new friendship forming between myself and the local tyre salesmen.

Oh boy.
Just as I was starting to have fun my world has come crashing down again. This time in the form of a smoking lump of refuse I used to call my transmission. It seems I got a lemon and us playing with the shifting just caused it to die faster.
So it's off to Holden to see whether they will replace it under warranty or pass it off to our local transmission people to get rebuilt. I'm hoping it's the later option as I have been in contact and they will build me a new transmission that will be able to take the future supercharger on Holden's budget with a little fundage from me. Woo.
*Crosses fingers*
soo cam....hows it comming?? What happened to it![]()
Hey Cam...
Where did you get your edit done ?
And how much was it?
Also in one of your last posts (i know it was like 6 months ago )
you said you heard of drive by wire.. thats just electronic throttle control ( no accelerator cable ) every model from the VZ has it.
My next mod will be an LS1 edit since i got mine lowered.
So hopefully my drive by wire will make mine a little more responsive....
is that metallicas one playing in one of ur pics????
Wow, it's been forever since I visited the site. Following the Transmission mishap my computer packed it in, then I had to go job hunting. Finally back on my feet with a lot more work done to the car, although not all that I wanted.
Quick update until I can post some pictures;
The car has since been fitted with a few goodies...
IPod cable that incorporates into my Pioneer headunit giving me full access to my 9000 odd songs. Joy! No more need to burn CD's. Ever.
VZ binnacle gauges in Red-Hot.
Genuine VY HSV Senator front bar.
Genuine VY HSV Clubsport bodykit & wing for the rest of the car.
Genunie VZ Clubsport 19" rims (thanks to my brother who sold me his when he got his 20" Koyas).
Complete respray in the "HSV Phantom Mica" which has speckles in it and a more lustre finish.
Sureflo OTR cold air intake.
Complete Difillipo exhaust (instead of just a CAT back) during this we discovered that the original CAT back was a 'spew' redback not difillipo like I had payed for. Angry phone calls and demands for my money back went longing. Oh well.
New LS1 tune seeing the rwKW jump to 248.
Topped the lot off with my new plates.. Will leave that for the pictures. Which I will post once I get home from work sometime this week.
Now since there were some questions;
Frandy - The transmission was replaced by Holden. Cheers out to my friends at the local dealership that removed the shift kit from the tranny before shipping it back to Holden. Otherwise I think they might not have honoured my warranty... The replacement box has been 'semi ok' and is just now starting to slip gears from 2nd to 3rd under full load (read fanging it down a quarter mile). With the shift kit replaced into the new box and done properly this time I am now pulling mid to low 12's.
SSZ-57L - The first edit cost me $550 and was done locally in Mt Isa. The subsequent Edits were slightly more expensive (not mates rates) and the most expensive of those was $885 for the Mafless Tune.
vr-owner - Yes, indeed it is Metallica's One video playing.. To pick that from that one picture must make you a true die-hard fan.

Some pictures of the car during the respray which was done in Ayr by Scuderi Panel Beating (my brother's missus's family! so mates rates!! woohoo).
And some of the car as it appeared when they rolled it out of the shop. It still had no badges at this time as they were waiting on me to fly over bringing the badges with me.
Cars looking really good, you should ditch the ugly clubby wing and throw on a more subtle senator bootlid, for me they look heaps nicer.
Need bigger brakes to fill out those wheels too!!

With regards to the money spent it was mostly a necessary spend for the paintwork. Whilst I had it parked at the local nightclub where I work someone decided to do that most heinous of crimes and keyed the driver's side from front to back. Sadly all I got from the security footage was what looks like a couple of kids with hoods. If I'd caught them... I couldn't take looking at that horrible mess so it had to go.
Minux, I like the Senator wing but the look I was going for is aggressive luxury. Since every man and his dog does a 'Clubsport' bodykit I decided to mix it up a little. The Senator front makes the car appear refined (albeit in black it loses a little of the luxury look) but this flows through into the rear of the car where it leans more towards the real nature of the beast. Besides which I really love the Clubsport wing, something about the airscoop just makes me tingle all over.
My brother's VZ Clubsport is going in just after Christmas for an upgrade to his brakes so the plan is to get his (I think they are 345 front 338 rear?) once I get them I have a guy who is going to remove the HSV emblems and remake them as Holden. From the photos you can't really see but nothing on the car is badged as HSV (well in the screenshots of the car above the wheels are but that has since been changed after ordering 6 different sets of centre caps until we got the right ones). The rear is what really throws people off since it has a Holden logo, HBD badge and the 297 badge to compliment the licence plate. Photo attached.
Other than the brakes the plans for the rest of this year are;
HSV 'Coulson' seats retrimmed in my original SS trim including the SS emblems.
Install of a mild Cam.
That should just about finish it up.

Dayyyyyyyyyyum, that is a really nice car but I cant fathom the money that you spent on it and if you had a round figure I would probably faint. But I guess everyone has a hobby albiet your's is particularly expensive. Although I am only a kid so the amount of money to me would seem colossal whereas for others it may appear normal. Anyway thats the stuff dreams are made of lovely car mate.
Bit of a thread dig but I'm glad it was found. Very sweet looking car after the respray.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
