    Default The VY SS

So here it is, taken a couple of weeks to getting around to posting pikkies...

Nothing extreme at this stage & pretty much as standard at the moment with running gear... already got cat back exhaust so I got it going in for Pacies / Hi flow cats on Friday, got a MACE CAI on order too.. tune etc. should follow soon so I thought I'd start a thread and post things as they eventuate..

Pretty tired so that's about all I can be stuffed typing for the moment...anyways enjoy.

Nice straight SS you have should sound nice with the exhaust finished.
If you are going to get the car tuned then forget about the Mace CAI and go straight for an OTR intake.
Almost all if not all OTR's will out perform any of the std placement CAI on the market, Mace, SS Growler, K&N etc.
If you want to retain the Maf then GM Motorsports OTR is for you but if you are going mafless then the choice is plenty.
My preferred mafless OTR is the Duspeed.

The best colour in the VY SS' in my opinion mate.
Please though, change those rims, way too much bling for an Aussie Muscle.

What Surfwagon said. OTR's are the only worthwhile method of cold air induction for an LSx IMO.
The car looks good though. I hated those wheels the first time I saw them but they've actually grown on me alot.

Cheers for the input lads, already got the tune & duspeed otr cai priced up - just a matter of waiting a few weeks now to get mo' money.....
From what I've read and been told the MACE cai's are pretty good units when keeping maf, had only good things to say about the one I chucked on the vp.. I looked at a few other kits around the place but MACE unit will suffice for now.
The rims have grown on me too since I picked it up, I have now decided I am keeping them rather than getting something more "run of the mill" - hey whatever floats ur boat IMO.

Been a while sorry - got it mafless tuned & alloy OTR intake done last thursday along with a new redback 2&1/2 cat-back system to replace the poxy x-force system that was on before.
Dyno says it's pulling 315.5hp (235kw) at the rears now - I'll put some more pikkies up soon :-)

Good on you getting it tuned, do you notice much difference between your old maf system and the new mafless tune.

Bloody oath mate it's worlds apart, straight off I noticed it doesn't seem to be "straining" through the gears if that makes sense... it's like driving a completely different car.
Power from the engine to the wheels now seems effortless, having the new exhaust chucked on has quietened it down at cruising but gives a nice meaty note anything after quarter acceleration.
Reading the forums I knew I was going to get some good gains from the tune, but now having experienced the difference I am completely stoked...now onto cam package and diff gears :-)

Nice pics m8. Gotta love the VY-VZ front buckets - the best seats ever made! Here's a tip to prevent the driver's base bolster getting more warn down:

    1) Take out both front seats
    2) Swap the base sections

Voila! The warn part is now on the passenger side and is being pushed back up by the centre console.

I did this same trick with the SV5000 seats I had in my old VS wagon and worked out great.

Cheers for that Derrro, I'll give that a go for sure - I like these seats immensely and would like to stop them wearing down further.

One dumb question though - aren't the side airbags are located in the seats? and if I swapped them over wouldn't they then be on the inner center console side?

I was told once - better to open your mouth and look like a fool than keep your mouth closed and remove all doubt.....

You need to just change over the bottom squabs, looks really hard but with both seats out of the car just a matter of undoing the covers taking out the foam bolsters and swapping them over.

Yeah what you do is disconnect wiring to elec seat/airbag on both seats, unbolt the seats from the floor and when they're out it's pretty easy to unclip the plastic retainers on the underside of the seats and ease off the entire lower cushion and leather cover.

They are identical to each other, except for the wear patterns, which is good!

What you have to watch for when putting the foam back on the seats is that the metal support for the side bolsters is inside the cushion, otherwise you will have to take it all apart again and do it again.

If u have any qstns PM me or whatever.

Cheers bud, yeah I'm considering getting the shoes changed soon - it's that or more running gear upgrades.......

I am really taking a shine to the Advanti Racing Ligero 20x8.5 - wheel deal have a package on them ATM....

Well if you call this "soon" here's a few new pikkies, I've had the rear springs replaced with just "low" eg. the back end sits about an inch lower than before just above the tyres- I've left the front for now.. also had the rear resonator taken off the other day and I must say it now sounds f**king fantastic..not that it didn't before - it sounds a lot "throatier" with a few more db added....had some undercoveries sussing me out this morning in traffic but they seemed happy enough..hehe.. have to scan the dyno sheet later on and put it up.

The hunt for new shoes will be on soon...not sure what to get yet, I like the 19" VE SSV rims at the moment... need to get them at a decent price.
