Default 03 HSV Series 2 VY MALOO.... decent sized cam n stallie on its way ;) n new pics up!!

    hey all

was a member many moons ago,

as first car I had a blue vs exec that some of you might remember with something like 10k + worth of audio gear, then I had a s1 vr stato that was quite well known here in adelaide as it ran HMAS VR....

    now many years later

as something practical I got a 2003 HSV Series 2 VY MALOO.. to haul stuff round for my Silvia track car...
and I dont think you could get a better gear hauler than a hsv maloo =)

    brought it from interstate,

and here is a quick run done of what ive/its got, only had it so far for just under 3months ...

    - 2.5" Catback exhaust
    - Exh Tech De-cat Pipes
    - Yella Terra 4" MAF Pipe
    - KN 4" Pod Filter *
    - VCM-P CAI *
    - MSD 8.5mm Leads
    - PWR Trans Cooler
    - Pedders Springs
    - DBA 4048s Front Rotors *
    - Bendix SRT Pads up front *
    - 19" Genuine VY Signature Senators
    - Updated Rear Tail Lights
    - JVC Double-Din TV (AVX836 w/NAV)
    - 6000k HID Low Beams
    - 6000k HID High Beams
    - 4000k Phillips Parkers
    - "Wesley Snipes" Tint

    ( * recently added )

but big plans in the next few weeks that should be taking place,

made 215rwkw before I modified the airbox and did the de-cat pipes...

    Future Mods:

    - Cam w/ valve springs and lifters
    - Rollmaster Dual Row Chain
    - 25% UDP
    - LS6 Inlet Manifold
    - MV Auto's Shift Kit
    - Stallie
    - 3.9s or 3.7s

now im at the dilemma with what cam size with what size stally I should go etc

as have everything organized expect that at the moment, so its the only thing holding me back...

a mate has a 232/234 virtually brand new, but heard many mixed opinions bout that size cam for daily use for a ls1

would like to get as close to 300rwkw as possible tho...

so any help would be great as ive searched heaps but no1 really answers the questions properly haha!!

ill post some pics up tomorrow of it, as they all not on the pc ...

    Cheers
    Benji

well today some progress was made,

found out the size stallie I need to go for the 232/234

and MV Automatics here in Adelaide will do the work, as they have done work on my cars before and are simply the best!!

will be going a 10" converter, and it will be a 3000rpm size...

should be enough to bring the 232/234 up and alive..

and got organized today a set of DBA 5000xs rotors for the front and some bendix srt pads to go with it, as gotta do service next week and gotta do it at the same time,
they should be here next week if mate places order the late this week !!

so should hopefully have some bit over the factory DBA 4000xs that the hsv come with ....

and then after that ill get the edit done and get it out the way with ready for the cam, valve springs, lifters, roll master dual row chain, and udp

then should be set for summer for some fun =)

    so stay tuned... =)

here is a quick side on pic I found on my phone, will take some better ones when I get a chance to get the dslr out ... =)

but couldnt go past my s2 vy loo !!

yeh hopefully bud... just have to wait and see, think similar setup been done plenty of times before so should be alright and see some good results =)

nice ute buddy 300 in a ls1 is hard to achieve without doing heads etc, i had a fairly decent cam back when i had my calais and only managed to squeeze 265 out of it so was still abit off
but that cam is abit bigger so you might get around 270 if tuned right see how u go

    yeh thanks bud,

    yeh it defiantly is dude,

in saying that I would be stoked with 270-290rwkw without doing heads,

dont know if the hsv's had different heads tho ... which i thought they did, so who knows .....

What brand converter is MV Automatics using? He usually uses Alltorque converters (local Adelaide brand). They are a loose converter, ok for a race car but probably not the best for an everyday driver and definately will cost you numbers on the dyno if that's what your into. I speak from experience as I have one and know a few who have used them.

They use both. If it's a dominator then it should be nice for a daily.

    =) thanks herron ...

hopefully when I get the fitment of the siggys worked out it will look that lil bit even better visually, as commo's normally dont do fitment or try to achieve fitment haha!

hsv99: yeh well this will be my first every auto box that ill have driven with one in it, so will be different to get used to I guess

well I thought I had batteries and a SD card in my dslr, but my old boy went away for the weekend and took his dslr with him and I forgot all my gear was in his bag aswell lol

so here is a quick few pics I took on my phone after Adelaide gave us a consistently good full day of summer sunshine for a long time haha, so got to get the maloo a proper clean and detail =)

    and here is whats coming up for the maloo;

    late next week these should be here;

    - DBA 5000xs two piece rotors for fronts
    - Bendix SRT Pads to go with

    then the weeks after this is the fruit coming/that ive already organized for it just gotta pick up;

    - 232/234 LSA 112
    - Comp Cam Double Valve Springs
    - Comp Cam Lifters
    - Comp Cam Hardened Push Rods
    - Rollmaster Dual Row Chain
    - 25% UDP
    - 2500rpm Stall Converter
    - Edit + Trans Edit

‎+ will be re-doing the stance, and will be rolling and pumping guards a bit and spacing the gts's out a bit more... as the "commo in general" stance shits me to tears haha!

so will be a very tidy lil package,
should be all done and running by xmas time/just after =)

    enjoy =)

so a lil bit of a update,

my genuine signatures are sold of today,

got some new shoes that going on 2morro avro, just to change it up a lil!!

so ill post pics as soon as I get them

and after placing order for my dba 5000xs's fronts been told there is none in the country atm for the pbr hsv brakes =( =(

so had to get the 4000xs for the time, as super desperate to change the rotors, running out of front brakes lol

they still will copy bendix srt pads, so hopefully it has some bit, might do some braided lines aswell to help things along as they are dirt cheap!

and placing a order for a DUspeed port n polished throttle body, and VCM-P CAI tomorrow aswel, as I thought bout it the std airbox will work but wont be the best, so thats the next best thing to add to my YT MAF PIPE ive already got, to help cam breathe better,

and hopefully picking up the cam and stallie this week aswel!!

so bit of a busy week for me lol

will chuck in on the dyno again once vcm-p and DUspeed TB arrive to see the gains with them + my de-cat pipes over what it made with std airbox no modding, yt maf pipe, kn filter, and 2.5" cat back ... (it made 220rwkw last time with just that)

so would least like to see 230rwkw ish still untuned this time round with the add of those three things...

but will post pic up tomorrow =)

vcm-p cai should be in thursday as was ordered this morn =)

Nice mate, I know jack sh*t abt some of the stuff ur talking about but am thinking I need new brakes too - I have PBR brakes as fitted on SSZ's and 18" SSZ rims. Do you recommend me getting the DBA 5000 2 piece rotors for the front like u have? What did they set you back?

    Cheers

Looks sweet mate.. I love the VY Maloos.. I really wanted one when i was looking for my car, but I don't know how i would of handled only having 2 seats.. Where did you take those photos? I've been looking for a good location like that.. I'm assuming you bought your wheels from Adrian Long? I bought my wheels from him too.. Put some pics up with your new wheels..

    hey guys

derro: I would suggest them, but DBA australia have no stock atm LOL

so I got something VERY CLOSE if not on par with a 5000xs

its DBA's latest rotor design and newest range the GT Spec,

the part number is dba4048s if you want to look at some specs...

will post a pic of the rotors up later today for you all to see =)

but wow the performance of the dba 4048s + bendix srt pads are freaking amazing, they bite so much and pull up on a dime!! should of done them along time ago!! would hate to see what the public pay for them =S as I got them thru a mate a heavily discounted price...

ill be ordering the same setup for the rear after xmas I reckon aswel just to match it up,

as with the pic of the white vz pics, ill go for a clean in a minute and take some photos now I have my dslr back haha!!

but have noticed im getting alot more attention, as this colour style colour combo seems not to have been done in adel that ive seen, its more of a jap car colour combo,

    but im stoked with them,

yeh they are adrians old vz's, he is a very close mate and he was begging me to keep them white on my car before I put them on =)

also put the vcm-p cai on aswel,

what a tight freaking squeeze that was with the nice and stiff YT MAF Pipe, and me keeping the AFM, (as there is a lil trick im doing when I do my mafless to get thru regency with it)

it barely all fits, but it anit moving now hahaha its that tight lol!!!

    now down to the performance,

well the gains from driving it as are awesome!! seems alot more thru the mid range n up top, and drives just alot better than the old setup of modded factory airbox

putting it on the dyno today to see the gains from that and my decat pipes so ill post up the results later with the photos =)

also got the cam spec sheet of my mate, whos cam im picking up this week hopefully if I get time lol

    its actually not a 232/234 lsa 112,

    its a 224/232 lsa 114.5 =)

oh and matt02ss: it is just next to the light factory on anzac hwy there, you cant miss it on the left!!!
