Nice calais mate, check out mine a couple threads down Carl's Calais.![]()
Considering A Manual Conversion!
it all depends on the purpose nath.
i take it your not thrashing the absolute knackers out of the calais (its a cruiser afterall)
ive found from research and other people that some extractors are only good at high ends of the rev scale. (prime example is Pacies, mid to high revs)
so are those Hurricanes good for the low range on the scale? (if they are let me know =P)
also have you looked at HM Headers (i dont know prices yet, hoping to find out tomorrow). i know ive rambled on about them abit, but they are apparently one of the best from low revs, and gives some extra torque down there. and it good up to 4000rpm after whish it fades out a little. (its not a racecar afterall)
so yeah if hurricanes are really good for down low torque let me know aswell. and if so yes i would get them fitted to your car.
i dont see you being the full hoon doing rev limiter corner drifts near smorgies at the Geelong foreshore =P
and $750. not too sure.
i got quoted about $950 to buy/fit a set of pacemakers with a 2.5 catback the other day (not that i want that =P).
so i dont know if either my quote was cheap, or what. but it may put it into perspective.
checkl this thread out for price on Hurricanes. vt-hurricane-extractors
oh and have you ordered that killerglass yet?
would look stunning on this ride =P
oh and rims. ARE THEY FOR SALE TODAY?
Cheers man! care to post a link for all to see? Always keen to look at another fine calais
welllll maybe a bit, hardly a maniac drifter but i do 'drive' my car. hurricanes, unsure on the exact torque range, the guy at south geelong exhausts couldn't speak any better of them, huge gains compared to pacemakers.
HM headers I've heard they're good down low too! i will get a quote for HMs, I've heard their build quality isn't quite as good though.
single peggers yo! haha jokes. smorgies? seriously? never seen a drift down there lol, instant canary.
That seems about right without a tip, tips are frickn expensive lol. pretty reasonable price nonetheless.
that thread doesn't tell me much lol.
what killerglass? that stuff you linked? nah i'm not that showy lol .
what rims for sale? what ya on about?
********
ANYWHO, after a mass reply to drawnites essay (for your reading pleasure and enjoyment) its update time.
Mace CAI is on there and suckin' air in real good. after a few minutes of driving you could really feel the difference off the line skids and all lol (ok just once).
Next up (hopefully friday) is a set of extractors to get rid of that drone when cruising. Apart from that actually really happy with the exhaust note.
Also, does anyone know a good tuner for VYs? Or another method of getting the old auto lag reduced.
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
So after ringing around I found out that $750 fitted was the most expensive bloody price in geelong! Not too happy at all.
Can get pacemakers or HM (stainless) fitted for $600 elsewhere.
Thoughts?
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
Buy a second hand set, repaint them and get them fitted. Cost me $250.
Save the money?
i wasnt able to get the quote on the HM Headers today.
just need to get the part number(s) and ring up again tomorrow. so ill let you know.
btw is your car a series 1 or 2 so i get the right quotes =P
also i posted the other thread because they got them fitted for $500 all up. that was all =P
and im sure you could always search for some more info or even better go ask other exhaust shops what they think. (or maybe NAAF?)
and what did you mean by the exhaust tip being expensive? what part do you mean?
and about the rims.... one of your more recent posts last page was about them not for sale.
just wondering if you had found them yet =P
hopefully this essay is kept to a minimum. just for you Nath

Carl's Series I VY Calais on 20's :)
there u are mate, and everyone take a lookyour calais was in my top 5 colours i wanted lol, lucky u. is that leather factory? to my understanding series 1 v6 was optioned with leather? not standard??
^ Second hand extractors is asking for trouble, you can't see wether they've rusted internally or anything like that.. they may look ok and have not alot of rust. but inside there most likely flogged out. may aswell pay the extra for knew ones, least if u dont fit them urself u wont have to pay 2 fitting fee's if theres an issue. Sometimes also 2ndhand extractors can be distorted when they bolt to the heads. all things to consider mate, my brother has a full exhaust on his VU V6 ute Manual, pacies, and redback catback etc etc, on high revs, i noticed like a small power band where theres a lil bit more power/torque produced on the higher side of the rev range? unsure if this is different with the autos when extractors are being put on.. but anyone else experienced this??? in reguards to ' powerband 'im talking bout??
Carl.
Considering A Manual Conversion!
Yeh the MACE Cai go hard :P
Oh nah I've been looking at more performance stuff atm, then wheels after that. Let me know... I might just wait until I hear from my mate that gets 50% off at difillipo lol.
Exhaust tip. Literally cannot be made any plainer/simpler than that lol.
Pacemakers are usually alright, I had second hand pacies on my VS they were great , really good note.
mmmm , not amazed by it. bit of induction noise yeah, slight throttle response increase... need new spark plugs though.
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
Yeah, there are risks with 2nd handies, if you have an educated eye, you shouldn't have too much of an issue. If you have the money to burn then go newies.
Meh, V6 mod time is over boys. I'm outta here![]()
Trent, you know what I'm on about![]()
Unless you plan on going big cam, I'd stick to standard headers, VY S2 engine pipes, LS1 cats & 2 1/4 inch twin cat back.
Correct. But use the LS1 cats, not the V6. Premwood wreckers is a good source for them. Make sure you don't go bigger than 2 1/4 inch, otherwise it will sound like a fart in a jar. So to speak.
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
I think all the SS cat backs are 2 1/2 & 3 inch. I think from memory you'll need the super6 cat back to get 2 1/4 inch.
i know how you feel.
just means more years to save for a big get out of my way top mount charger sticking out the bonnet with a 572 Big Block sitting below it. (not for commodore, think 68 camaro... =P)
but just keep a 6 for getting to and from places. no need for a v8 for everything! (and thats coming from me...)
so long as you enjoy it, thats all that matters.
got the quote for you.
approx $540 for everything down to the cat.
although depending on what series will mean if its 1 or 2 cats etc.
and also because i rang him and what not he said i could get about 20% off (it was same price as the VS one) but i think he was referring to the VS one. (so about $430)
would also take about 3-4weeks to be made.
hope that may help.
but 50% at DF would be pretty good. id go that if i were you =P
Haha, oh that'd be good. If only i could listen to them both lol.
Due to the outrageous prices quoted for extractors and a huge list of other cheaper stuff to do, getting plenum & manifold spacers and new speakers for the VT (driving to melb everyday in it atm, will move them to the VY if I start working in Geelong again) .
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
Sooo picked up a plenum spacer 2nd hand off ebay for $90, sweet.
Also ordered a 25mm from mace, bit cheaper too![]()
so so keen to get the following done asap
- Plugs & Leads
- Spacers In
- Plenum Clean
- Injectors Flow Tested (Replaced if Necessary)
AND THEN
- Tune
- Maybe corvette servo
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
so 12mm plenum and 25mm intake?
you wont be running an engine cover with that set up =P
(mine only just fits with 12 and 12) it actually touches bonnet in 1 spot
sounds good what you have in store.
and i guess you are still counting down the days til the big one.
btw thanks for all the advice you have been giving me. youve been a great help.
and i take it you have scraped the sunroof idea?
