Cheers lukeyVY,
I do all the body work on it, I love it, lol its good fun to me? except the first bit, where you have a nice shiney car then you have to basically hack into it!
So far, I've painted the rear quarter panels, and rear bumper... but they're not 100%, and only in acrylic, Can do the primer fine, 2 pack, or acrylic - because I can just cut it back to get it flat, its just the metallics thats not quite upto scratch, but not too bad for a Plant Mechanic!! I painted a fair bit of my last car VT - herron white, that came up a treat - cut back and polish after spraying it..
If I can get in touch with a mate, see if he can paint it for me because he's a spraypainter/panel beater it will be a better job that I could do, 2 pack + a booth = shiney car + happy Josh! (with empty pockets?!)
HEY anyone?! Wheres the best place to get 2pack primer from?? Does Holden sell it up here? (I'll have to ring them on Mon.)
And looks like I got out bid for the number plate garnish.. aww,
Anyone know how much do they go for at holden aswell? I asked before, but have forgotten...
H Zeussy
Two places you can try for paints at Tuggerah.
Colortec - 17/10 Pioneer Avenue, Tuggerah (in the Industrial Estate near the Railway Station)
Coastwide Paint Supplies - 1/83 Gavenlock Road, Tuggerah
Try Colortec first - I've used them in the past.
That bootlid garnish will be exxy new - I would think at least $100 plus.
About the cruise just go to the NSW chapter and check it out i think the meeting point is somewhere down south but maybe if we can meet at the twin servo's or something like that

I had the front door basically half done, I thought it wouldnt take much work to get it done - boy was I wrong!! needed some work on it...
Just gotta take another look at the guard, get it ready for primer on wednesday (if the weather keeps up) Maybe even flare and roll the front guards?... to match the rears
FAT.36L i'll check that site out, but the twin servo's sounds alright ey.. Are you going to have your doors painted by then?

Cheers FAT.36L,
I'll hopefully grab some tomorrow..
I rang colortec, they want $158 for a 5L kit, 4L primer - 1L hardener, or $58 for 1L primer,
And I rang Penninsula Panel Beating Supplies, and they only want $117, soo looks like when I'm down gosford tomorrow, getting a pinky, i'll grab some off them...
MIGHT be able to get some tips/help, and a booth off one of mums work mates' fiance`
But have to ring him, mum just told me this arvo, soo either him, or my other mate...
Heres what I got upto this arvo... another late one...
I think as soon as the welder goes near this metal, it warps.. couldnt help it, took ages doing it, and it was just as bad as the others?!
^^^ Welded in, ground flat, prep sanded, ready for bogging..
^^^ Same...
^^^ Second last layer of bog, it doesnt go half way up the door, thats just the light reflecting off the door...
^^^ Primed ready for a long block back, then some 2 Pack high build/fill primer...
I'm thinking a good block back, just to try and take some of - if there is any - ripples/high or low spots, then throw on like 3-5 good coats of the 2 pack high build/fill, then go nuts blocking it back, to make sure its dead flat?? maybe more or less?
So now the counts upto:
3 out of 4 doors ready for priming, and
1 out of 2 guards ready for priming!! getting closer,
Just one door and 1 guard, and lots of dents!
Stone chips on the bonnet - should I bare metal it? paint stripper then re-prime, basically starting from scratch, or just clean out/open up all the little holes, bog them in, then a good 2 pack prime all over???

Heya, just letting you all know, passed its pink slip today! The guy just looked at the doors and was like " ohh modifing you door handles ey?" lol, old fellas...
Got some primer today.. and some bog hardner - all up $120, so that should keep me going for a couple of days..
Got a quote on the colour too, around $200 for 3 litres of Delft blue.. Baslac brand I think? never heard of it, lol.. He rekons its a newish brand, thats just as good as this other, more expensive brand?!
And he doesnt have PPG clear, recommended Central Coast Holden, so I'll get on the phone with them soon, see what they want for some.. Do they sell the colour too? might ask ey..
He quoted me on some cheap stuff, Spartan, $85, but I think i'll get a better clear than that..
Can anyone recommend any brands? Paints/clears?
coming along good man , wish i could help yah out with the paint . but yeh not my department
lol, cheers man,
O but you did help me out with some paint/mods earlier on!! haha,
Looks like its not my department either lol,
I'm usually in favour of Dulux paints, but have only ever sprayed acrylic, never used two pack.
Spartan is ok, but you are after a top finish so stick with the recommended brands from the suppliers - if it turns to shit, you can burn their shop down.
Yeah, im not too sure about the brands either? only ever sprayed Acrylic aswell, usually cheap brands
But, Im going to have a chat with a painter soon, so hopefully he can sort out the truth from the B/S going around about paints?!!
I was told that the primer isn't always neccessary to use the same brands as the top coat? - don't know how true that is but, I also been told to stick to the same brand with the base coat/colour and clear? but Sean, VL Berlina 5speed, has used a PPG clear over a different brand colour, with NICE results!!
Spartan is just a relatively cheap brand, but I was told that BASLAC still has the quality of some of the better brands but with a smaller price tag??...

I most likely will aswell, after seeing Sean's VL, (in his pics,) it looks awesome, and apparently available at Holden? I didnt ring them, was flat out running around today..
Is the Gunmetal for the indside pillars?? that could look alright eyy, I'm thinking of triming it in black, either velour of fake suede, to go in with the door trims/dash, if I can find some at a good price...
Im not sure if I'll need upholstering material, or just some stuff from anywhere.. Gotta see the motor trimmer again, get some prices
^^^ Hows that colour scheme? Cheers levymetal!!
Never really been a fan of two tone paint jobs, but I don't mind the colours there? maybe its just the silver I like - always been a big fan of silver on cars for some reason?!

hey zeussy can you chop mine with a dark red on top cheers man
Hey FAT.36L, I don't know how to do it yet?!! lol, I just ask the guys in the "PUB"
'the official photoshop request' thread, lol, I've had a few of the guys help me out, quite a bit!!
Heres what I got upto this arvo, the pictures really doesnt do this any justice, in the pics it looks really grey-ish and patchy, lol its the flash, in real life you cant see the finger marks/patchy-ness as much, and its alot darker black, not a grey..
Its Black Velvet upholstering material, fake suede was too thick/heavy, it didnt stretch as much, so it wouldnt go around all the curves as easily... Spotlight bargain!! lol...
I'll get some better photos in the natural light tomorrow, I think im going to paint/stain the speaker grilles, jet black to match the material, they are a dark grey, but next to the black you can really notice the difference...
And will probly get the satin silver door handles/vents, but for the moment i'll just leave them black/dark grey see if they blend in ok?
Was going to/maybe still will trim the insert bit in the doors - behind the handle area, in black panther type stuff, lol, but I thought that might be too much!!

Man you got to teach me how to do that
I want i want i want
Last edited by hakhawk; 06-06-2010 at 08:44 PM.
lol, it looks pretty good in person, theres a few little imperfections, but for a first door, it looks mint -never done anything like that before, except a lounge or two a few years ago!
Yeah man, i'll show you how to do it,
I've got plenty of material, so if I get around all the rest of it, and have left overs, i'll re-do this one, but for now im pretty happy with it ey..
But it took all arvo, started at like 2pm roughly, and only finished it like an hour ago, but you probly don't need to do that bottom pocket, it was a bitch to do.. was thinking of painting it satin silver instead of trimming it? but ehh done now!
Yepp gun metal for sure, originally I was going to do it dark blue, - the arm rest bit, but I ran outta cash, lol, and then I saw this material like a panther, not too long, about 5-8mm long, but soft as.... and couldnt decide?!!
Yeah that chatty tan colour up the top half of the interior is all dis-coloured from grubby fingers and shit, lol..
Black Velvet FTW!!! lmao..
I'll just need the black carpet - but I'm thinking that the dark grey will stay in there for a while?? maybe when I have the cash to get the seats done professionally?!! just throw a cover over them...
lol, yeah I've got some black southern crosses, but they're worn a bit, my car was an ex-cops car, unlckily, the seats were a bit stained/worn, and Ive basically demolished the drivers side, lol, jumping in and out all the time...
Looks good. Could you do a how to for this? I was thinking of using a faux leather just for the inserts in cream.
