    Unhappy VZ Fuel Economy

    Hi guys,

Recently purchased a VZ Executive seemed to be getting bad fuel economy. Looked up Holden spec’s they say that I should get 11/100km around town... but I only seem to get 18/100km....

Wondering whether this is normal economy or do I need to get it tuned or something…?

Also will putting an exhaust on it improve its economy or make it worse...?

Whoa, I thought 14/100 on my VZ wagon was bad!, I think most are getting between 10-12 city and 7-10 on highway.

Exhaust , tune and CAI will definately bring it down, that what i will be doing soon.

i get around 14 in my wagon, depends on your driving style. I have a bit of a lead foot, when my wife drives it she gets around 11 or 12, so it is completely subjective. I get around 9 highway driving.
If you are gunning it at every light change 18 wouldnt be out of the question

Are you working the formula correctly? How many kms do you get from a tank? Sure the handbrake isn't on?

ive had mine sitting on 7.4L/100km (dipped to 7.2 on occasions) on the freeway the whole way from canberra, down the federal and hume highway, around town is usually around 12-14L but i do small km's in town, and they are short cold trips,

all depends on your driving, the kind of driving you do, and the environment you drive in, also dont judge the economy by the computer, its not usually accurate until you get a bit of driving behind it to get a long average out of it

I normally get around 12-14l per 100k of city driving, quite a few big hills around here, and lots of start stop.

acutrally highway driving and cruise control with the exhuast will bring it down, city driving with the full exhuast (extractors ect) will be higher

I drive through Sydney peak hour twice a day, right to the city, and I average about 14L/100km, in a V8.

I get around 16lts around town with a very heavy foot. I have always used 98 octane fuel since I bought the car around 17k ago. Its done around 23k and I get the oil and filter changed every six months and use full syntehtic oil. I also have a cat back exhaust which helped me improve economy, it was worst before the exhaust. I have noticed one thing which was bought up in some previous thread that after a few weeks of feeding premium fuel fill the tank with the 91 octane, has helped me with the mileage, try doing this.

Mine usually sits around the 12-14 Mark doing short trips which is all stop and start traffic. And i don't exactly have a light foot :P

If i baby it around can get it down to around 11

i used to get 9.3-.5L to the 100km mon-fri in and out the city (peak hour), in my full exhaust and tuned vz alloytec ute, and the highest i saw it was 10.7L to the 100km on the weekends due to short fast trips!

dont think a tune would get it any where near 'normal' running conditions.

i would start at maybe looking at the oxy sensors or even the MAF sensor and try cleaning them up.

possible they might be dirty and clogged and giving a wrong reading causing it to use to much fuel.

Wow dude.. there is something seriously wrong.

I usually get 14L/100... and that's driving pretty hard. And the misses usually get's 10's..

How many K's are you getting to a full tank?

Well if you were only moving an average of 1.8km/h like the readout says then you could use alot of fuel.

I just bought a K&N Filter to see if that makes any difference....

Filter did seem a little dirty but I don’t think dirty enough to be causing me bad fuel economy.... but we will see…!
