    Default Upgrade Of Air Intake

Hi. My fiancee, KMR-VZ in the forum, has a 07/07 V6 VZ wagon and we are gunna bee looking at a 2.5 inch sports exhaust system for it soon and after that it would be good to upgrade the air intake. Knowing exactly what to do with the intake set up is where I am gunna get stumped so can anyone give me some advise on what after market accesorys/air filter would be best to use in conjunction with the more free flowing exhaust to improve performance a little.

i also want to know about mace inductions..ive seen them for sale and done a bit of reading on them..and very interested to know if its just a preference to have a mcai and k&n panel filter or to have the mace pod filter in the box..and do each have there pros and cons?

to fishman you should be able to answer this, does mace pod filter have to be oiled?

    cheers james.

nah mate they come with a 25 dollar SAAS pod the for my vs did anyway

i just swaped it out for a K&N pod and noticed more imporovment then b4

warning tho u have to shave the lip inside the pod on the rubber bit so u can get addapter part far enuff in the pod

otherwise it was worth putting a k&n its got even more induction noise now

so to buy the mace pod in box..with a bad pod..is $270..then its better to get a k&n pod which is another 70-90 bucks im guessing??...dunno which is better or easier?

All you need to do is put more openings (towards the blinker) in the lower airbox to make it breath better, The 'Monaro" intake is just a shroud that reduces hot under bonnet air being breathed in. The pic shows what the VY 285kw HSV used:

suppose you could always mod your standard air box and fit a pod in that........ should be too hard, i might look in to it

Yes, try the K&N Panel, then after a good week of driving, take it out and face it towards the sun and see how much dirt it's compiled on it.

The filter we use isn't bad as what people may think, in fact it's better then a K&N item in the fact that it can be run oiless. Why is this fact important, well on cars that run MAF's it certainly is for the following reason

    Clean your MAF

    Food for though

ok thanks for that mace, as i asked fishman before for the specific reasons of i dont really want to be running a oiled filter because of the storys ive heard of people having problems with the oil running up the intake pipe and into the maf sensor..will probably be purchasing a cai from you soonish.

mace i was also told that ur intake kit also comes with the manifold insulators, well atleast one of the guys from QLD got some with his, therefore making it $300 delivered and u get a pod kit for 170 and mani insulators for 130 which is cheap

the maf cleaning issue maybe true on vs-vy coldwire mafs but the bosch maf in the vz/ve is a hotwire maf will a burn off feature the heats the wire to 250c to help keep the maf clean. that said the oil film could effect the iat sensor.

mine is oiled (not over oiled) had it for a while check my MAF ect and they were clean as no sign of any oil pretty sure its only a problem if u over oil the filter
