Fuel Consumption in relation to Service question ??? - please help

Hi Guys, I have a 2005 VZ Sv6 which I have had for a few months, it is about 1,000 k's from needing a service, something which I havnt done since I bought the car.

I have a really light foot as I have been keeping an eye on Fuel consumption, I always seem to linger around the 15.5 - 16 mark even without taking the car over 2000 revs. This is a little high for my liking

Would a good service generally help fuel consumption in anyway ?

if you go to the secondary info menu i.e hold mode and set and turn ignition on, change it to instant fuel consumption,

i lowered mine economy heaps by watching this, you will see that backing your foot off the go pedal by a lil bit, saves so much fuel, say cruising at 50km/h it may be on 11L per hour, backing your foot off a bit, but still maintaining the same speed can lower it too 7L per hour, try that as you drive along

lol and then floor it and see how high you can get it. Had mine at 70 somthing lph flat stick in 2nd ha ha

Fuel consumption using the dash display is very misleading.
Let me explain;
If I fill up reset my fuel display and then drive like a loon home,
my fuel consumption might be upwards of 20 lt/100 km.
Whilst the vehicle has only travelled maybe 3 km.
I could then claim my consumption is excessive!
My point is there are a lot of variables in fuel consumption.
On average mine over years of driving the VZ is around 10.5l/100km.

I had some fun with the live fuel gauge today, best I could do was 60l/h lol.

To the OP, you definetly have an issue, when my car is grandma'd it can easily sit on 10's around town. When you take it for your service, let holden know that you have a problem. A general service probably won't change much, but they may be able to find what's causing your fuel problem.

Whenever I get a service, my fuel consumption is worse because Holden must give it a good workout.

I got 95L/100km inst fuel on the statesman dash. Thats when we left the campsite, lol

To the OP, could be a fault somewhere with the fuel system. Tell holden the problem in detail, otherwise they wont do much about it!

is there a way of getting the instantanouse fuel usage on the main display (ie instead of holding menu and set all the time)

have you taken the car on a reasonably long drive might help free up the car, i noriced it on mine after i went to melbourne.

it also helps if you open the car up a little to clean out the injectors, spark plugs.

a service should help if its been a while between them
