i got an acclaim about a year ago with same amount of Km's and i have all of those problems except i can still get about 11L/100km.

the "km's to go' is WRONG, it is very rarely right on mine so i just drive with the knowledge of how big the tank is.

i did read somewhere on here that when installing the VZ float they get bent which causes the computer to show wrong readings. not sure if this is a common thing

let me know what holden say cause i would be interested in fixing mine,

It usually happens when you leave the fuel cover loose. I happened with me . I always tighten up the lid and all smell gone.

have u checked the fuel cap? is it loose after you filled it up?hence the fuel smell. i had a simular problem and while it was still under warranty holden reckons i had a faulty filler neck and replaced the whole tank.
but still check the cap especialy after fueling up as it works loose coz the tank has been presurised. new cap fixed the prob

always tighten the fuel cap and even so that wouldnt cause such a loss of fuel.

do i have to take it to holdens to get the gauge flashed?

my ute fuel gauge says its empty after about 400-430km
i can get a maximum of 45-50L in the tank then.
ive read somewhere there are some problems with the VZ

just fill it up when it says to fill up
think about it... a full tank is only 45L instead of 75

i had the same problem with my vp man, 15.2L/100km with a soft foot. there had been a lot of talk about oxygen sensors improving fuel economy quite a bit. i got one on the weekend and chucked it in, its a fairly straightforward job too.. basically disconnect the battery and out with the old on with the new(with a vp that is.. not sure about the newer motors). ive only done about 30kms since so im still waiting for an accurate reading but i recommend you look into maybe replacing yours too

VZ fuel tanks (and most likely others) always maintain at least 10 litres of (unuseable) fuel to maintain pumps and pressure in system.

maybe change fuel filter n spark plugs........ just an idea of the top of my head. otherwise yeah check for leaks......... run 1 ltr of metho thru a full tank of fuel....... help clean it out a bit.

PS. If the cars tuned at all....... that'll suck fuel if it's been tuned incorrectly.

with ur fuel smell is it only when you first start the car maybe? .......... there's two times u may smell fuel.......... when it's warming the cats (cold start) or if your constantly in Catalyst Overtemp....... as the car will overfuel to keep the exhausts cool....... Maybe you have something stuck in your catalyst converter or it's getting old.......... just another idea for you.
