How much did it cost?
Hi all, newbie here. Tell me if this is anywhere (I've checked the FAQ and did some searches), but it seems the most important thing ( ie how much you pay for your car) is not covered anywhere.
My view is that dealers have margin that the sales crew are not told so when they tell us it's a 'rock botton' 'nothin left' price, the dealer has $ up there sleeve. So what I do is fax a heap of dealers for their best price and find I shave at least $2k off the 'best price' at my local delear. :b: I usually pick delears in a 2 hr drive from where I live and give them a response time (ie fax on Friday night and ask for price by say 10.30 Saturday morning).
Here's what I got ... new (not demo) SV6 manual, Impulse Blue, Jan '05 plate, for $37k drive away (rego in Qld) ... invoice shows rego of $353, ctp $317.80 and stamp duty of $802. This is a stock car ... no accessories (not even a mud flap). Picked it up 23 June 2005.
So, what did you pay for your car?
And, what did you get (incl accessories / modifications / etc)?
Let's start a buyers pricing revolution .....

I ordered an '05 plated SV6 in '04 for private purchase. If you're wondering why I've got an LSD as an option when it's standard in '05 plated SV6, it's because we didn't know at the time Holden were going to add this as standard in '05 when I ordered the car. At least I got Side Air Bags for nothing.
So Here's the breakdown
$38990 RRP
$1330 for accessories (Limited slip diff, window tinting, moulded mud flaps, metallic paint)
$1695 Dealer charges
take away dealer discount of $3866
Price before rego $38149
On Road's for NSW
CTP $335
Stamp Duty $1146
Rego $370
Total $40000
I only got $17000 trade in for my 2001 VX S Pack (With SS Fog lights and rims). The other thing too, I asked for the dealer to swap my 5 VX SS 17" rims to the SV6 since I didn't like the look of the SV6 rims plus I wanted to keep a full size spare.
Then there's my $3000 rebate from the Holden credit card. In the end a $20000 changeover price

Last week I picked up my SV6.
Impulse Blue, 6 spd Manual, stock standard.
Invoice states 37,133 which includes the 1062 stamp duty, 335 3rd Party, 352 Registration fee.
This was after the $4,953 National Fleet Discount (load of good that is ). I could probably have haggled the price down, but I needed to make it a quick purchase and I wanted a dealer who could source the car in less than 2 days.

Got my red SV6 2nd hand in July for $29,000 with 25,000km. Was first registered in Nov '04 by Dept of Health. It's a Holden Certified used vehicle so I get the remainder of factory warranty PLUS used car warranty - total of 5 years and 3 months. Gotta love that. Beats me why you'd spend 10 grand more on a car that's only 9 months newer and get less warranty.

Don't know how many of you are able to Salary Package cars through your work? If you can it may be the way to go!!
I work for a Governemnt Department and "packaged" my car through a leasing company using what is referred to as a "SmartLease". The way it basically works is the Govt Dept. purchase the car and it becomes an asset for them for 3 years (the length I agreed to with my lease). Then the dept. basically makes me accountable for the car - payments etc.
After the lease period (3 years), I pay a residual value to purchase the car outright (40% of PURCHASE price). The huge advantages are you pay a set amount each week which covers everything (petrol, rego, fuel, services, insurance, etc.) which is mostly paid out of PRE-TAX $. Therefore, you are paying for your rego, petrol, services, insurance etc. out of your salary BEFORE tax, so depending on your tax rate, thats how much you save on these items!! Also, for tax reporting purposes at the end of the financial year your gross salary becomes reduced by the weekly payments made throughout the year. You do have to account for Fringe Benefits Tax, but Im personally about $2000/year in front than if I did not "package" a car (assuming a loan with an interest rate of just 6.95%).
But wait... theres more... Despite the above benefits of packaging a car, I was also able to get a massive fleet discount, as my employer (Gov't) 'technically' purchased the car. I got an SV8 with leather seats and | | |
