g'day all
i'm looking at getting a vz ss but am unsure of which engine to go with.
from what i can gather, the 5.7 chews less fuel (on the books) but they're notorious for burning oil, piston slap, etc. most of these related problems were sorted by the VYII though rare cases still occured.
does anyone know if anything like this has happened with the 6.0? especially considering i would be getting one of the early engines (vz).
i'm aware of the power differences, and delivery but am more concerned with any problems that are likely to arise. i don't particularily want to be getting an engine rebuild.
if they're reliable & aren't likely to have any of the associated problems mentioned above, i'll be taking the 6.0 for sure.
i'm not one to modify a car, so these questions are asked on the assumption that both engines are stock.
any help would be appreciated.
cheers.
basically any vx to vz gen111 is fine, vz 5.7 is a nice motor, i wouldnt be concerned about reliability of either the 5.7 and 6.0,
fuel consumption from what ive heard between the 5.7 and 6.0 is minor, and if you get a decent tune on it, economy and power vastly better on both counts,
room for improvement is better for the gen 4

I did over 95,000 km on an early build VE SS (not the same motor but very similar) and am coming up to 50,000 km on my current VE SS. Neither had any mechanical issues what so ever. I have not heard of any engine related problems with these cars.does anyone know if anything like this has happened with the 6.0? especially considering i would be getting one of the early engines (vz).

If I had a choice, I'd go for the 6 litre for the street. Power comes on way earlier than the 5.7 which likes to rev. As a track/race motor I'd have to do more research but in stock form I'd almost lean towards the 5.7.
