Hi,
i am currently contemplating cutting down the gearstick in my Manual 6 speed to shorten the throw, i am aware it wont make much difference and its certainly not a rip shift but wont shortening the throw assist in someway..
anyway i am wondering if anyone has done this yet and if anyone could give me some advice if i was going to go ahead and do this

it wont really help u all that much i did it in my old lancer and the shift time was still the same, also im not sure but doesnt the 6 speed have reverse up next to 1st gear and u have to use a leaver to get into it, if u shorten it u might wreck being able to do that, id just wait or get a kit proven to work
No, the pivot point at the base of the gear shaft will still remain the same. Therefore the shift will exactly the same, waste of time mate.

taking it down an inch or 2 will shorten the throw both foward and back and side to side it wont make it super short throw unless you take a heap of but it will change how far you need to move it
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
well from what i see looking at the gear stick it cannot be cut anyway.. but.. it does appear to be seperate from where the 'pivot point' is.
Does this mean that an 'aftermarket' gear stick will go on? ie one out of a monaor or Clubby, they come shortened standard

Billet make short shifters/rip shifters whatever they are called.
i would think that would be cheaper than a clubby one (if you were to buy from holden i would expect an astronomical price for one)

^^^Thats all good but the VZ 6spd short shifter is only for the V8's not for the 6's.

I have a VZ 6spd short shift that I had on the car before I got a Billet Shifter. It's to suit a V8, and I couldn't tell you if it will fit the V6 box.
It's the same as this, very well constructed:
HOLDEN LS1 HSV >>SUPER SHORT<< SHORT SHIFTER!!! - eBay V8, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 17-Aug-09 23:57:46 AEST)
Willing to let it go for a fair price.
DANJA'S CLEAROUT 2010 : Various VT-VZ parts, short shifters, performance parts. Check it out!

if you can remove the gear knob and cut it down, yes you will reduce the height, but it wont change the stroke, it shouldnt create an issue with selecting reverse,as it runs off a detent, not a lock out setup,
give it a go and be a guinee pig for us hehe, having a shorter height should feel nicer though, as it wont be so high up

Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Lols. I did this in my first car, a datto 120y. Shortened it by about half
Wouldn't bother now.
