i recently decided to upgrade my exhaust system i currently have a 2.5" cat back and did have outlaw hiflow cats 2 of these i got pulled over by the local constablry and i now only have a cat back system with factory cats noise reasons blah blah blah but the guy at the unnamed workshop reckons i should actually be running 4 CATS yes thats right 4 cat converts is this guy insane or am i just not up with the times he could also be saying this cause my new lesser flow cats are $350 each
i think some VZs did have 4 cats standard, so if yours had that many, im guessing you need to keep them all
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
would this be for legal reasons or performance reasons cause if its just legal then maybe i can just flog out the cores in the first set with a star picket or simular sized bar weld a bit of 2.5" pipe thru the guts and abra kadabra "4" cat converts or so it would seem
i think you will find its something to do with euro emissions and that all late model (Jan 06 onwards) VZ alloytecs (not sure bout the 8's) had to comply with tougher emission standards for exporting, thus holden introduced 4 cats..

No, the VZ V6 only had 2 cats, the other two look like cats but are in fact resonators. This guy is full of shit. (the exhaust shop guy that is)
i agree with above sounds like rubbish my ve doesn't have 4 cats.
i honestly never thought they did, but someone once fed me a load of bs telling me due to euro emissions etc etc.. i thought it was bs aswell

the only thing that came from euro emissions was the extra oxy sensors to make sure the cats are operating effiectively right?
yeah there are definatley 4 O2 sensors on my car, so maybe i got a little confused bwahaha sorry guys

4 O2 sensors is correct on the 190's, 2 pre cat and 2 post cat. I'm pretty sure the 175's only have two though.

I do know what I'm talking about occasionally....
My alloytec 175 (170) has 4 oxy sensors. Its an MY06.
It may be the first of them that had 2. Like I said, I'm not 100% as I haven't seen that many 170/175's
All MY06 Alloytecs have 4 oxy sensors to meet euro emissions standards. Also its the reason they went from 175Kw to 170.![]()
It Deff Has 4 Cats No Mistake About That It Is A 190 on a My06 VZ Calais Will Get Piks And Post
The two at the rear just before the flanges are not cats, they are resonators. They may look like cats but I can tell you, they aren't.
Looks like i better call this wanker at outlaw then and tell him he has no idea what he is talking about and that in his 20 years of exhausts he learnt nothing maybe if i owned a HQ Or a Fj he may be able to help me i just looked under the car with a great deal of trouble but i can see the Resonators/cats whatever they may be arent sensored the cats that first apear on the engine side the legit cats are alott bigger but the second "boxs" are real small
i was happy with my exsisting set up screw the NSW car regs
